I've lived in Martinez for 4 years and finally got around to booking sufficiently in advance - it's usually sold out. Entertainment from the moment you walk in. The servers are amongst the performers! Other performers not on stage or serving are also mingling in the crowd doing tricks, perhaps budding professionals or darned good amateurs. When I say "crowd" the term is liberal - the place couldn't seat 50. Because it is so small, almost everyone who makes eye contact is likely to be personally engaged somehow. The natural seating arrangement is 4 to a table. Our party of 7 took two tables moved together. The drink selection is a not extensive, but I'm sure anyone can find something to suit, and is reasonably priced. The food was good enough - small salad and a soup to start, followed by steak and chicken over risotto with roasted vegetables - nothing too special. The dessert was quite tasty; a selection of hand-made treats. The MC, Gerry, and the two headliners were wonderful, especially in such a small venue. My expectations were high, and they were exceeded handily. Time and again we all just looked at each other shaking our heads, saying "how did he DO that?!" Plenty of humor mixed into the tricks makes for a great evening.Martinez has plenty of on-street free parking on weekend evenings, if not on Main, then nearby side streets. Plan to show up when the doors open to take maximum advantage of the pre-show entertainment. If this were a restaurant review I'd give 4 and 5 stars for ambiance, service and value, and 3 stars for the food.

my wife and i have been here several times, usually for special occasions or with out of town guests. dinner is ok, but what you're really there for is the show, which is always entertaining and fun. great for kids, family special events, or anytime you want to do something different.

This is a fun place. We have been to the show many times and enjoyed it every time. We always take our friends that visit us the always like the show. Not only do you have the stage show but the magicians perform at your table and it is really something to experience. The trip to Martinez is worth the time.

Campy, schmaltzy And pure entertainment for all ages. Don't go expecting high end magic acts, go to be entertained by budding magicians. The food was generous and pretty darn good. The ambience is perfect for a small dinner theater with a twist. Good family fun in our own backyard.

I really enjoyed this place. It was a great night, that my wife and I needed together and we are glad we laughed all night and the food was great.

We had a Great time at the show, non stop entertainment at the stable and on stage. All magicians are excellent! food is good. only negative is the bar could have a wider variety of drinks, however they have limited cocktails, and wine.

We went to the dinner show on January 17, 2014 as a part of our Ladies' Weekend in the bay area. The food was superb, the entertainment was great fun and we all had a fantastic time! Both my daughter and my daughter-in-law got to be magician's assistants up on stage and they had a blast. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun, fun evening.

Every weekend Gerry Griffin hosts the California Magic Dinner Theatre in Martinez, California. To begin with the food is excellent. Sit down with your family and friends to enjoy a delightful meal. Before the meal and while you are eating strolling magicians come to your table to whet your appetite for the upcoming show on the stage. Gerry is an excellent emcee and the headliner will amaze you. Be sure to make reservations early or you won't be able to get in.

Our party of six, ranging in age from 9 to 67, absolutely loved the entire evening. We can't say enough good things about the food (we all had their signature beef/chicken meal and fell in love with the butter & herb sauce that is served with it), the personnel, the quaint atmosphere, and of course the degree of magical talent. This evening exceeded all expectations. What a little gem in Martinez!

We've been to the California Magic Club about a half-dozen times and have enjoyed an excellent evening every time. We intend to return again and again. This intimate venue opens its doors for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights only and reservations / purchase beforehand are a must. Booking at least a week early, especially for Saturdays, is advised - 40 people is a full house. You'll select one of two dinner entrees at the time of your purchase. The standard fare begins with a roll with butter followed by a green salad with choice of several dressings (we recommend the raspberry-walnut vinaigrette). Next, the main course is plate of sliced roast beef and a piece of chicken breast on a bed of tasty rice with some vegetables on the side. Dessert is a variety plate of several sweet tidbits. Vegetarians may substitute a pasta entree, which my sister reports is very good. A good selection of adult beverages is available at a reasonable extra cost. But it's not about the food.Owner, host and master magician Gerry Griffin unlocks the place shortly before 7:30. He, and occasionally an assistant, will greet everyone at the door and show them to their tables. When all are seated, Gerry, with a dry wit and mischievious twinkle in his eye, joins several of his cohorts who make the rounds during dinner doing a variety of magic tricks at each table. Gerry and his staff will make you feel not so much like customers but more like long-time friends. After dessert is served, the main event begins around 9:00 p.m. By now, Gerry has gotten to know his guests and usually introduces those celebrating a birthday, anniversary or some other special occasion to the rest of the group before the main show begins. The stage is tiny (Gerry sometimes jokes it has been re-created actual size on his web site) and it sometimes gets crowded. There is a very good chance of being invited up to become part of the show during the course of the evening. Performers change from week to week, but every show we have witnessed has been and excellent experience of both amazement and laughter. After a quick three hours, things wind down by about 10:30. Gerry acknowledges the performers, invites guests to meet them - if they haven't already - and take a picture or two with them, too.On your way to the car or on the drive home, you'll no doubt tell yourself, "We should do this again, soon!"

It was an absolute delight to experience Gerry Griffin's special California Magic Dinner Theatre - We just loved it ! It's a gem of a place. You walk inside to a cozy, intimate dinner theatre setting. It's gorgeously decorated with vintage magic posters and photos dating back to the turn of the century (and original props on display from Charles Carter the Great when he played in the Orpheum in San Francisco). The Magic entertainment is top-flight, a mix of magic and comedy, at times showcasing talent from all over the US. The food is yummy, and during dinner, Magicians visit each table to entertain you with amazing close-up magic! We can't wait to go back.

What a find a diamond for sure, thought we would celebrate our last 4 days in the USA. Not a mistake. A wonderful family place magic at your tables before your 3 course meal. Amazing and so friendly and clever, then the show, it was breathtaking and a few mates dropped in for guest appearances. Gerry Gerry Gerry you made our night so much fun and yummy food and drinks excellent value and highly recomended

This is the perfect spot for a birthday celebration. The host and other magicians do magic tricks at your table while you wait for dinner. They have you either laughing or shaking your head in amazement! The food is really very good, several entrees, yummy salad, etc. The venue is small enough that everyone has a great view of the magic on the small stage. You will promise yourself that you will return again after just one evening. Oh, and you will just love the owner who has the most mischevious twinkle in his eyes. Good clean fun!!!
