This winery is a step into Italy the minute you get out of the car. It is owned by a real old world Italian. The wine is outstanding, the atmosphere is comfortable and the place is loaded with special things, like statues, to enjoy.

This is a small hometown v poo neyard with all the classical components you would expect. The owner and vinter are classics. Come and enjoy with a taste of the grape. I believe you will be pleased you did.

Went here while staying in San Diego and enjoyed the atmosphere while sipping on very good wine and listening to Sinatra, Dean Martin and so on by a very good local threesome band. The food is excellent though most of us enjoyed the homemade pizzas. To end our short stop here we walked the beautiful garden out lining the front property.

As with all wineries, I have learned not to hype a certain wine. Wine is really a personal matter of individual taste. This winery, as well as, others I have visited, have numerous selections, therefore I am sure you can find something to your liking. I am more interested in the "atmosphere" and feeling of a place.We were not disappointed at Salerno. It's a old established winery located in the outskirts town of Ramona, California. It has recently gone through a few cosmetic changes that improved its surroundings. Besides being serenaded by the owner himself [great voice, Italian music] There are many pieces of art on the property [statues], as well as, many shaded areas where people can gather and drink wine. I would recommend this romantic place for couples as well as, groups of friends. Before I forget . . . food is available for purchase and reasonably priced . . . GOOD Italian food!My friends and I spent several hours under a tree, drinking wine, and eating a pizza that was reminiscent of my days in New Jersey. Time just floated by, and we left as they closed, content.

First off, the wines were nice - don't miss this place because of the rest of my review. That said, finish something! There are a LOT of projects going on that clearly have been going on for a while. This would be an awesome winery/vineyard if there wasn't some kind of project around every corner. There are a lot of statues there, certainly worth taking a look at those too.

This was a very interesting wine tasting. It was relatively inexpensive, quiet, and the workers were friendly :)

We moved to Ramona 2 yrs ago. We've been going to Salerno's just about every Sunday since! We LOVE this place AND the people! The wines are great and Herman makes THE BEST pizza and bread in Ramona. Unfortunately, due to a pending license change, they are currently not making Pizza - can't wait till it returns! Sunday afternoons features live music and singing (opera, Italian, and sometimes even some Russian and Jewish songs!) There's a Bocce court and beautiful sculptures around the grounds. They have big plans in the works! come check it out!As soon as the pizza comes back the rating will once again move to EXCELLENT!

What a welcome surprise . We visited by chance as it look like and interesting place . Well if Just got better and better . Fun place with nice wine and cannot pass up the brick oven pizza . A great place any weekend . Music, pizza and wine , it's get no better than this . Tip is does get crowded at 2 when the music starts , but they are expanding the seating and gardens. If you are in the area , not to be missed .

This place is one of our favorites in San Diego. The wine is decent and the tastings are very well priced, not to mention that they offer a military discount if you ask. The grounds are so charming, they make me feel like I'm spending an afternoon at a winery in Italy. German, the owner, is wonderful and spends his days interacting with the patrons. If you're lucky, you may even hear him sing a little (he used to be an opera singer in his days). Their pizzas are made to order in an outdoor brick oven, simply delicious. On the weekends, there is a live performer singing a range of classic Italian songs to good ol' Frank Sinatra pieces. You may find a brave soul dancing to the music like we did. We come as often as we can, and the drive to Ramona is definitely worth it.

Salerno Winery is definitely eclectic ~ lacking the hype of Temecula Wine Country glitz and busloads of unruly drunken 21 year-olds. Rounds of somewhat bizarre, romanesque/greek/modern marble and bronze artworks are haphazardly placed around the walking paths in Salerno's vineyard. There's even a bocce ball court on the lower level.Ramona Valley is on the verge of becoming the next Foxen Canyon of wine trails... Windy roads lead to Salerno, tucked off Highway 67 behind the stately cypress trees and majestic oaks. Rising 1,500 feet above sea level, Ramona Valley, with its own micro climate has been recognized with its own AVA appellation.Salerno Winery's tasting menu is outstanding and only $10 for five tastes, plus a complimentary tasting of the 2007 Bianco Tosto, a pale golden blend of Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. I was mildly surprised to taste an estate 2011 Pinot Noir ~ unheard of to be grown in southern California. Aptly named, 2006 Inspiration, is well-balanced with the fruit forward Cabernet Sauvignon and the earthiness of the Petit Sirah. And, my favorite ~ the 2007 Sensation, a divine marriage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan ~ fruit forward with red cherry and black currents with a velvety vanilla finish. You are always welcomed, the view is nice, the homemade bread, the wood fired pizzas and the occasional opera song...the wine is Smokey and different. Visiting Salerno, is a place to stop by to visit with friends and family.

Did a wine tasting on Tuesday and came back on Saturday to try the Pizza before our flight back to Colorado. A must to add to your list. A great experience!

I had a friend visiting from Upland and we decided to invite a few other galpals along for a foray to the wineries in Ramona. It was a gorgeous drive into the hilly countryside. We stopped first in Escondido at Ferrara winery. Sadly, it's in foreclosure and set to shut down by Thanksgiving 2012. Unless your visit is sentimental, there's no reason to What a delightful and delicious visit! We lingered... and as the day grew late, we headed for Salerno Winery. Greeted by the most charming and cordial people, including Herman and Rose, the proprietors, we enjoyed delicious wine and bread w/olive oil and balsamic. We loved every minute, sitting at the chiminea, visiting with the dogs and looking out at the rolling countryside. We returned home with a trunk full of wine and ready to face the week ahead. It was a perfect daycation. Can't wait to go back!

We fell in love on our first visit, joined the wine club and go back often. The wines are wonderful and the homemade pizza is baked in their outdoor pizza oven...so delicious. They sit on top of a little hill so you can relax and enjoy the surrounding valley and mountain views while enjoying a nice glass of wine and a slice...or two!

What a wonderful place. The atmosphere was so relaxing and the pizza/wine were excellent. Herman and his wife made us feel right at home. This is a MUST SEE!!
