Calcareous winery is our very favorite place to visit when we are in Paso Robles. The wines are delicious, the tasting room is a fun place to be and the location of the winery if perfect. After winding up Peachy Canyon Rd a couple of miles out of Paso you take a turn to the right up to the top of the hill where the winery is perched. The view is spectacular, making the outdoor seating area the perfect spot to relax and share a great bottle of wine with great friends. They also have food and wine parings, wood oven pizza and music on selected occasions. Check out their website. Highly recommended.

You'll be happily surprised when you make the drive out to Calcareous Winery. Their tasting room is located at the top of a beautiful knoll surrounded by scenic views. I came here with 5 girlfriends while we were in Paso Robles for a girls weekend getaway. Everyone in our group just loved their wines, which apparently derive some of their distinct flavor from the heavy limestone found in the soil of this region. I understand they also hold many special events here that sound like they would be fun to attend too. If you're in Paso for a wine tasting weekend, don't miss out on visiting Calcareous.

We really enjoy the wines (Tres Violet, Moose, Lloyd) that Calcareous produces and it is a marvelous setting in which they offer tastings.Today we stopped at Calcareous on our way through Paso and purchased a couple of bottles of Lloyd at $50 per and were a bit surprised that we were charged the $10 tasting fee as well (even though we only tasted 3 of the 5 offerings)...that seemed a bit tacky.... and inconsistent with other West Side wineries. We'll pass on going to the winery the next time through Paso instead going to Albertsons in town for better pricing ... and no tasting fee!

Friends recommended this winery and so took a drive out Peachy Canyon to visit this winery. Fabulous is all I can say. The view is spectacular and the wines are even more so. Definitely one to go visit.

Unbelievable hilltop location with views forever. Their wines are all top notch. This is a place to go and sit and have some wine and relax and enjoy the view. Bring some snacks, or order one of the several food items they have (I think on the weekends only).

We stopped here on our way going to another winery. Beautiful venue. Great view of the countryside. The wines were excellent. We would definitely come again.

I would rate the experience at Calcareous Vineyard excellent based on the location, the tasting room and their wines. We recently decided to take a more leisurely pace on the drive back to LA from the Bay Area. The scenic drive down the 101 although longer sure beats the boring 5 and the Central Coast wineries are a great half way pit stop. This time we stayed in Paso Robles and explored several local wineries including Calcareous which was new to us.The drive back to the vineyard was very picturesque and the setting at the top of the hill spectacular. The somewhat basic winery buildings were surrounded by pleasant lawns and tables. Frank (an amiable fellow from Denmark where they really don’t have wineries) was nevertheless very knowledgeable about the various Calcareous wines and viticulture in general. His commentary was one of the better ones we have heard as he tried to educate us about the various nuances of the wine. While their cabs were well done, I particularly enjoyed their red blend (Tres Violets) that Karl wanted to have us try, despite the fact that it was not on tasting list.I highly recommend Calcareous and the Paso Wine Region as a pleasurable, less crowded and expensive alternative to Napa.

Thoroughly enjoyed the drive up the winding Peachy Canyon Road (take it slow, but savour the green surroundings and shady curves), but the best is the stunning view from the top. We went on a weekday, so no option to enjoy the excellent Thomas Hill Organics food, but took our own (Trader Joe's sourced) picnic and settled in with a bottle of wine under an umbrella on the stone patio overlooking the spectacular scenery. The wine tasting was really worthwhile, hosted by the knowledgable and pleasant Amy. We had a difficult time deciding which wine to picnic with, but the buttery Chardonnay won out in the end. A very pleasant experience which I would highly recommend!

Go here for lunch on a beautiful day. They pair their wines with Thomas Hill Organics food, what could be better! I had already had lunch at THO so I just left with a case of their incredible wine.

Went wine tasting with family on 12/30/14. Calcareous Vineyard is at 1200 feet atop of a mountain with breathtaking views and beautifully landscaped grounds. Weekends they offer wine & food pairings featuring local organic foods - which we didn't get to do but next visit I will :) The very large Tasting Room is warm and cozy. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I purchased the Pinot Noir York Mountain 2012 - very good. We all enjoyed it for New Years celebrations. I differently will return on my next visit to my sisters!

As we drove our way from the Adeida Road area of Paso to Calcareous I mentioned to my wife that the winery was noted for its view of the Salinas River Valley below. Those notes about the view did not lie. This was the perfect view to end our day of wine tasting. The wines themselves were good though nothing struck as as spectacular. Calcareous does not appear to have a particular focus on varietals as they produce Pinots, Chards, Cabs as well as a few Rhone varietals. We are not typically Cab drinkers but their 2011 York Mountain Cab surprised us with its restraint and we brought home a bottle. I would definitely revisit the winery, though perhaps not during something like Harvest weekend as the number of people who were enjoying the view, just like us, made it more difficult to just relax and take in the scenery.

Our large group (14 people) was looking for a winery to do a picnic lunch and we decided on Calcareous based on some rceommendations. I dont think that we could have settled on a more beautiful spot to do so!! We picked up our picnic lunches from Red Scooter Deli and headed on to the winery. The narrow, winding Peachy Canyon Road leading to the winery was a fun drive. You know you are approaching the winery when you start seeing white limestone rocks. A quite narrow winding load leads up to the winery. The whole setting- winery and surrounding grounds are gorgeous. Plus you are on top of Paso Robles area with 360 degree views. We had a nice lunch on the grounds outside. The winery also had a food + wine pairing going on but it looked like small portions and probably pricey. The large tasting room has a nice, open feel. Tried some good wines in there. Purchased a couple of bottles- Lily Blanc and York Mountain Pinot, which were duly consumed with our lunch!! The kids played a game or two of bocce ball outside. This place was a big hit with our group and I will highly recommend it for the views and the wines.

Experienced Calcareous on our trip in October of 2013, we went there for the winery and the Outback Horse Ride and loved the view. First we went on the horseback and then came back to the winery. It had started to rain and we really wanted to sit outside for lunch, but the staff set up a table for the 4 of us and we bought a bottle of wine and had a very pleasurable experience at Calcareous. I would definitely visit again and if the weather was again gloomy, the indoor table, wine and company was great so sit inside and enjoy... :)

If you are trying to visit a zilllion wineries in one day,,,don't go here. Its too special to rush through this gem high on a hill with 360 degree views all around. Just the drive out Peachy Canyon Road is special. The wines are superb with the Zinfandel as our favorite. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and relaxed. The grounds are just spectacular, the landscaping is gorgeous and sometimes they have live music with wood fired pizzas which is always fun. Part of the thrill leaving is hoping you don't meet another vehicle on the way up...very narrow drive.
