It's above the highway at a rest stop. Mediocre statue. Big deal? No big deal. If you missed it at the rest stop you missed nothing.

Junipero Serra was the leading force behind the founding of the California missions. This is a large statue honoring him that can be seen from highway 280.This is also a rest stop. In general, unless people want to take a rest stop, they just continue their drive on highway 280 without stopping. We generally just drive on. We have stopped once however to visit the statue and the rest stop. If one does stop, it will take less than 15 minutes to see it.

Somehow the "sculptor" of this abomination convinced the local government authorities to allow him to erect it, free of charge, on governmental land. It is an insult to the citizens of San Mateo and the memory of Junipero Serra. It should be removed, but then, who would take it?

Unless you are really into junipero Serra it's not worth your time. This is just a statue on the side if the freeway. Cool to drive past but not worth a special trip.

This is a very quiet rest stop on the highway with some very pretty views of Crystal Springs. I actually visited in the late 70s/early 80s.
