This Central Coast wine tour was very dog-centered, because we had recently acquired a pair of service dogs. We wanted to enjoy the excellent Central Coast wines, but not at the cost of leaving the dogs in the truck. Zaca Mesa was a tasting room we had enjoyed previously, and they love dogs! So, back we went. Excellent visit, although the dogs got behind the bar and threatened to create mayhem. But ZM is very casual, so, no worries!

A sign at Zaca Mesa said this was the oldest winery in SB County. It started after Prohibition. The Tasting Room is big and modern. People were very friendly. A couple in the membership told us what a great value it is. They even had a server pour us a couple different wines. I climbed the Windmill Trail - part of it was closed. But there is a nice view from the top of the hill. The patio had lots of different places to sit. Also a large chess set that kids were playing with. A Sheryl Crow like singer and band was playing. We didn't care for the wines but glad we stopped.

We have been to several (probably 10) wineries in the general area of Santa Maria/Los Olivos. There are some great wineries, but many that in our opinion are frankly not worth the $10-15 tasting. Glamour over quality (Fess Parker/Firestone). We stopped here on a whim and were very glad we did. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great wines. Well rated. Reasonable prices. And - in April, some selloffs of some great wines at super prices. This is the only spot we bought wine (and we drove, so it's not an issue).Nice grounds. We'll definitely be back. An "oldie but goodie."

Zaca Mesa offers a very nice tasting room with good wines and a nice shaded area for a picnic. We found a coupon in one of the local wine guides so our tasting was two for one.One unique aspect of Zaca Mesa is that they offer a hiking path off the parking lot. After several tasting, a brief hike in nature offers a great diversion.

We stopped in and the grounds were very nice. The staff was busy but the Welsh woman who helped us was friendly and took good care of us. The wines were good, glasses were nice enough to purchase (although one broke as I cleaned it and my child broke the other). They had a musician and stated they have live music frequently. The Syrah and Rousanne were my favorite wines. Not too many Rousannes (or California Syrahs) around, which was nice that they had. The wine, to your taste or not, is a good quality wine and this is a good example of wine and a wine tasting room. I'd love to come back someday (and other than Zaca Mesa, try other wineries instead, lol).

As others have pointed out, ZM is not close to much (except nature). Maybe that is why Miles and Jack never made it up this far! They have a pleasant tasting room, lovely, shady outdoor picnic area, and, on this weekend, two-for-one tasting! I learned how to correctly pronounce Vee-O-Nay here.

This winery and tasting room nestled back amongst oak trees along Foxen Canyon makes fantastic 90-point syrahs. I also recommend their roussanne, and was pleasantly surprised by their chardonnay. Because this winery is a little more off the beaten path, they're not quite as busy or filled with such a young clientele as wineries in the near Los Olivos area or the tasting rooms in Solvang. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. My family is in their wine club, and we never find a reason to complain about our shipments. Fun things about the property: Nature trail along the oaks on the hill of the property.Large sized chess board and picnic tables in the courtyard outside the tasting room.Go visit!

Zaca Mesa makes good wines and we tasted several fantastic Syrahs, a very good Voignier, and a tasty Rousanne. The staff was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the wines. This winery is a little more off the beaten path, but well worth the scenic drive. They have lots of shade, picnic tables, bbq's and even a trail you can take a walk/hike on. Bring your own picnic lunch or you can order food there. Of all the wineries, this is one of our favorites.

This was my third time visiting Zaca Mesa in several years. Each time was enjoyable. The surroundings are an interesting blend of authentic-looking ranch motifs with designer touches inside. What stood out most this trip was that we arrived sort of on the late side, but the bartender happily waited on us and did not rush us.If you like Syrah and Rhone style wines, this is the place to stop.

We have been to Zaca Mesa in the past with some great years, then a few recent years that things seemed to be off course. We stopped back today to find a renewed life in the operation and winery!! Found out they have a new GM who is really getting things turned around. Add to that a new (well for a few years now) winemaker whos wine is now being released. And for confirmation - Wine Spectator has rated 90+ points for a LONG list of wines!! We are white wine lovers, and had an amazing array to choose from, but our favs were- Chardonnay- Grenache Blanc- Rousanne- Z BlancAnd then we went to their signature Z Cuvees, Rose, etc. It was a tough choice to pick what we wanted (without filling the trunk). There were sales on cases this time (40% off), etc. This year they had their 40th anniversary there, and apparently more events will be coming. I AM A FAN!!!!

I have been a member here for over 5 years. I believe they have the best wine within the middle price ranges for this area. Well worth the visit.

The Z Three Blend is my favorite. The tasting room has a nice selection of Chardonnay, Viognier and Syrahs. The big red Syrahs are hard to beat and several to choose from. Nice facility with room to bring a lunch and enjoy yourself. Best time to enjoy is to avoid the crowds on weekends.

Zaca Mesa specializes in Rhone wines and Chardonnay. My wife and I are mostly red drinkers and they are pouring some very good Syrahs this year. We came into the tasting room to what was basically a party atmosphere. There was a limo in the parking lot that brought in a large group. We managed to find a spot at the large square bar which can probably easily accommodate 20 people or more. There is plenty of room to roam around in this large room and look at the shirts and wine goods along the walls. I enjoyed all of the wines and definitely had fun here.

I must admit that I was a bit disappointed by our tasting experience this weekend. Here's the scoop:4 stars for the ambience - nice tasting room and lovely grounds3 stars for the wine - some were pretty good, some not so (We left without purchasing a bottle)3 stars for the service - just ok, the tasting room host was nice but nothing to write home aboutAll that rounds down to a 3. We had a 2-for-1 tasting coupon. I might return another time if I had another coupon. One cool thing about this place is the life-sized chess board out on the lawn. I saw some people playing during our visit, and they appeared to be having a great time!

We came here with a party of 6, and despite the tasting room being crowded when we arrived, the staff quickly made space to accomodate us. The sommeliers were friendly and the wines were very good. We even learned that our local Costco carries their wine, which is convenient. The Viognier and Syrah was delicious, and if you purchased two bottles of their wine they refunded your tasting fee. So, of course we took them up on their offer! Inside, they had a vendor selling jalapeno, serrano and habanero jam and offered samples of their product. Outside the tasting room there was a live band playing and picnic tables set up underneath shade trees. They also had a life size chess board made from square pavers and lightweight chess pieces. I'd never seen that before. Great atmosphere!
