A short drive away from the downtown Saratoga area (a few miles into the mountains) is the wonderful Sanborn Park. It is open year round We like the trails there as they are beautiful with redwoods. There are interesting oak trees, which is also good for shade. Its a good place to have a picnic. There are nice tables, including a group picnic area. There is also camping and fishing. In the summer, its a fun place to go see a Shakespeare play in the ampitheatre.Except for theater days, we find that finding a place to park here relatively easy. Since it is a county park, there is a day use fee. The amount of time to spend depends on what one is doing. For a picnic, it might be a couple of hours, and if camping a day or more.

Sanborn is a great place for a hike or just spending a couple of hours walking on the nature. The place has a good number of trails and most of them are pretty easy to walk offering no big challenges or dangers if you are not an intense adventurer. Expect to get a bit of everything: redwood trees, a river and a little waterfall and a couple of really cool rock formations. And if that’s not good enough for you, here’s an extra: the place is free, so you don’t have to worry about your budget. If you happen to love nature and if are in Saratoga, Los Gatos or somewhere nearby, I strongly recommend you to pay a visit.

I went for a hike in this park just a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised! Beautiful nature so close to home! :)As we arrived we found a herd of deer on the road. What better way to start a day outside?!The park has a fantastic, large, green picnic area on a hill. There are lots of picnic tables and restrooms. There is a campsite that I would definitely would love to come back to this summer. There are several hikes, for a variety of skill levels. You can go for a stroll on the paved pathway or wander off further into the wilderness. I was there on a rainy day, so it was very quiet, I don't know how busy it gets on a sunny day. There is plenty of parking, and there is a $6.00 fee to enter the park.

Sloped lawn is the order of the day, so sit up near the top and enjoy the view of the many trees and hills that surround the park. It never seems to be crowded but it is so beautiful you have to wonder why. maybe it is not known to many. but if you are tired of your back yard, this is a great little retreat into nature. Probably not so little.

This was a nice place to hike and camp with the family. My only recommendation would be to reserve early so u can get one of the first spots! The hike that you need to do with all of the camping gear to reach one of the upper camping spots can be hard since your going uphill but you the scenery is nice and the environment very relaxing..

We have enjoyed several Shady Shakespeare performances at Sanborn Park over the last few years (August and September). We always take a picnic, then go watch the play. Play tickets are only $15 or $20 and it makes a fun night out. The chairs (even the premium ones!) are notoriously uncomfortable, so take a cushion or blanket to put on them and don't forget a sweater/blanket for when it cools down. Bug repellent also a good idea. Their concessions stand sells wine and snacks etc for the performance. Its a small, intimate theater setting in the redwoods.

Gorgeous trails from Skyline to hwy 9. Some trails along Sanborn road are not well maintained but this a beautiful place to visit.

Very large park, a lot of RV and walk in campsites, large green grassy field with BBQ pits, very well maintained campsites with new tables and strong food cabinets to keep your stuff from critters, clean and nice bathrooms, lots of shady well maintained trails with some pretty tough inclines, plenty of bugs but they didn't seem to be the biting kind and a chance to get away from it all but not have to drive that far!

We went here for a few hours to hike! It was a great place to spend time outside in the pretty trees. There were some nice views too throughout our hike as well. Since we went during the week, there were not many people there, except a couple school groups. These groups teachers placed information cards on the trail for their students to read on their solo hike, so if you come across a group - you are also free to read the cards to learn some basic facts about the trees and nature. There is a small entrance fee per vehicle.

I've been to Sanborn for many years for both parties and traditional Russian festivals. This is a great place with a cheap parking fee and beautiful scenery. I personally love hiking upriver. Kids love hiding and playing in the woods (don't worry, it's safe) and running around in the open field. Dogs are allowed. The only incident that has ever occurred is when a nest of wasps fell out of a tree and attacked two boys (they were fine). Watch your kids when they go in the woods. Plenty of parking and a great place for picnics. Enjoy!
