I sincerely apologize for the occurrences you experienced on the day you visited. During winter we're open just a few days each week. This allows us time to move our birds around for the upcoming spring and get caught up on maintenance. The young man you mentioned should not have been doing anything other then being attentive and helpful to our visitors. He has been spoken with and is aware that is priority one. I believe we were offering free feedings when you were here because we had just moved the ostrich to the feeding area and they were being trained. Please consider returning and allow us to provide the experience you expected. This is our 24th year and we do stumble once in awhile. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Indian Point Ostrich Ranch has been in business since 1992 and opened to public viewing and tours five years later. Ostrich is the "other red meat" and they are also raised for leather, feathers, and their eggs and egg shells are highly valued, so the ranch has much to offer, both from an educational perspective and from their fascinating gift shop. The ranch even has a wonderful line of Blue Feather ostrich oils that have incredible homeopathic medicinal values. You can purchase feed and "hand" feed the younger ostriches. A great side trip for the whole family - and there are vineyards nearby worth visiting, too!

This was our second time visiting the Indian Point Ostrich Ranch and since our first visit they added pens with baby ostriches in various stages of growth and a section where you can feed them with long spoons. Let's face it...ostriches are weirdly cool and according to Tori our guide, not bright! Their brain is smaller than their eyeball and training is not an option because they have limited capacity to recall anything. What they do offer is a direct link to dinosaurs which in itself is amazing. The ranch has the more milder ostrich than the really large ones from Africa. Tori explained that the African ostriches are mega-testosterone laden and the redder their legs and necks, the meaner and less friendly they are. Ostrich meat is not considered poultry and can be cooked like beef. I have eaten ostrich and it is lean and reminds me of bison. We purchased the ostrich lotion (Wildberry Sage, a better option than unscented in my opinion) and it is a great hand cream. We also purchased the feather duster and a picture of the boys riding Ralph, the ranch's official stud. (Green screen picture and everyone we showed believed they were riding on an ostrich...bonus!)This is a quick diversion in a beautiful area of California and definitely family friendly and fun. Tori was terrific in answering all our questions.

Good place to learn about these huge birds and see them up close. You will get to feed the birds, but hold onto the pans, as they like to tip them.

We are new to Bakersfield. We always drive two to three hours to spend a day or two close to the beach. We started to explore local areas and this was the first place. Your was helpful and well worth it for the do room. Small place for those who are tired of big and crowded places. Well worth the time and the drive.

The young man who took us around the ranch was so kind and taught us so much. We were able to "pet" the feathers, we learned about the laying habits of the bird (and the fact that they mate for life with one partner) and so many other things. Who would have thought we would have had such a fun time. The place is well organized, and there is a shop at the end where we could buy some things as gifts. It was a great adventure.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He taught us quite a bit abouit these birds which are the largest birds .I didn't realize that they only had an attention span of about 15 seconds and were considered to be "stupid" and untrainable. They don't have teeth, but will peck at you with their beaks and it is wise not to let them snap at your fingers or your clothing. They mate for life and recognize their mate by smell, rather than vision .It is well worth the small fee that is billed as a donation. The ostrich feather dusters that they sell in the gift shop are quite nice.

We recently attended the Marshall Tucker Band show. The venue is next to the lake and under the pines. The sound system is excellent and there is no bad seat. The performers are clearly comfortable and enjoy the location and knowledgable crowd. Concessions are handy and efficient as are the restrooms. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great place to see a show.

We decided to stop in Tehachapi in the way back from Lake Havasu and came across a brochure for this place. We all loved it. My kids, 10 & 14 and my wife. I recommend it. You will learn about ostriches and get up close.

Should not advertise that it is free when they are demanding a mandatory $4 per person. I felt that a donation should be optional. If they are going to claim they are free then they should not demand a fee. Otherwise they should advertise that there is an entrance fee. This is false advertising!

We loved that the guide was extremely knowledgeable and the info was all so interesting. Unfortunately she spoke extremely fast so we missed lots of what she had to say. Just go and enjoy being so close to such amazing birds: the largest on earth!

This place is unbelievable, educational and fun. Be sure to bring your kids. The ride there is just as fun, all will enjoy. Not expensive at all. One of Tehachapi's attractions. You will learn about the great birds you didn't know at all. A pure nature trip.

It's OK - not good or great. Some interesting trivia about ostriches provided by tour guide. Can't complain about $4 per person but I wouldn't drive a great distance to get here. Fine if you're close by. FYI to those who read review mentioning "highlight of trip was photo" of child "riding an ostrich". No one gets to ride an ostrich. It's a photoshop booth - you sit on a green sawhorse in front of a green screen and pick the computer image of the ostrich you want to be seen "riding".

I had a trip out to Tehachapi, CA with my daughters and wanted to find something for us to do while there so I looked it up and found this place and decided to check it out. Both my daughters and I were very pleased. Nice family atmosphere and very sweet AND knowledgeable staff. We all had a good time and may even be back for more ostrich goodies on our next trip out there! The have a recommended $4 donation per tour, if you can, do the tour, otherwise you're looking at something you may know nothing about. After taking the tour, I was glad I did, otherwise I would have just been walking around and um...yeah...take the tour! They have a cool little souvenir shop too, I definitely enjoyed THAT!
