Charles and I loved this museum and spent about two hours there. The exhibits are so well displayed and give you a good sense of the intricacy and complexity of early life in Weaverville. I have traveled all over the world and have seen museums large and small. This is one of the most enjoyable. There is great care taken in the displays and the structure/layout assists in the understanding of early life. The diversity was a surprise. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys history, beauty and well organized offereings.

This museum is well worth an hour or two. While we were there, a volunteer came by who is working on a book about the Chinese in Weaverville. It was very interesting to talk with him. His book (actually a digitization of a previous work available only in xeroxed typescript), will be available soon, including as a .pdf on the museum's web site. There is a fairly large collection long guns.

I was not sure what to expect from our stop into the museum, but I left with an appreciation for the natives, founders, and settlers of Trinity County. The museum did a very good job of cataloguing the special and daily events in the lives of the county's citizens. Some of the events are interactive, and it was neat to be able to play a coin-operated orchestral regina music box. My six-year old son really enjoyed the museum, too.The gift shop has decent prices, and since admission is only $2, you can easily afford a gift or two to take home. There are several outdoor exhibits, but the were not operating when we were there mid-week. Next door to the museum is the Weaverville Joss and although it was closed, we were able to walk around the grounds of the temple.

The Jake Jackson Museum almost always surprises visitors in that it is such an EXCELLENT museum in this small town. The facility is well laid out and the items are displayed in a manner which allows one to fully examine them. The museum is also a "world class" research center concerning the rich history of the area. The gift shop is full of items to delight visitors, young and old, and the exhibits on the grounds outside of the museum capture the flavor and equipment of the gold rush era. Don't miss this one!!

This museum takes you right back to the 19th century mining era history of Trinity County. There's a lot to see both inside and outside. If you love California history, you will love the Jake Jackson Museum.

Each time I go to our little museum I am truly amazed at the variety of interesting history represented, and how much is added each time. The latest additions include a working saw from gold rush days, buggies, stage coach, sleigh, and wagons and from the era before automobiles. A fully operational black smith and stamp mill. Lots of photos, clothing, jewelry, and other memorabilia of Trinity County. Definitely worth the time to explore.

I have visited museums throughout California and this is the BEST. The Trinity County Historical Society is a group of very dedicated local historians that continually improve the presentation of Trinity County's rich history of the gold mining and logging. The original jail cell that was moved from the courthouse to the basement of the museum, complete with drawiings from inmates, is amazing. The restored horse drawn carriages and visual presentations of the early miners and Native Americans are all outstandilng.

I think it's better when the outdoor park is operating- check the website. Tons of interesting local history- bullet ridden pants from a stagecoach robbery, furniture, and jail cells. $2 a person for about an hour of entertainment, not bad! No handicap access to the lower level unfortunately.
