Very scenic part of Avalon ... great location for activities. The downside .... the new restaurant with prime patio seating is "under staffed" for servers. We witnessed several customer's actually leaving because of extended server wait time to take their lunch order. One would expect additional servers on a Sunday.

Very Pretty and great environment- Rocky beach, but that is just how it is so you can't knock it down for that.

From the center of Avalon at the shore, a quarter mile paved walk passing the Avalon Casino will get you to this small spit of sand, suitable for tanning and wading (but only in summer). There is a beach bar with music, and cabanas, chaises, and kayaks for rent, as well as some small tourist shops directly behind the beach area. This is the only easy-to-get-to beach on the island.

The beachside bar is what you come to expect. Great service. Good food! Is it just m or does anyone else feel as though this location is becoming a bit commercialized?

Descanso beach has a remarkable thing - a perfect blend of serene beach resort with a snappy, party atmosphere. The food is quite good. The facilities are newly built and ample and the landscaping is perfectly elegant.

Wait till this Spring when construction is done. We love it at the bar!Having drinks after scuba diving or zipping is icing on the cake. Watch out for the Descanso Destroyers!

Not happy about a huge conference center being built on this quaint property is disturbing....is this really necessary on this small lovely island?

After reading some of the positive reviews, I couldn't decide how much time I should allocate for this beach during our short stay off the cruise ship. It was comical when I saw how tiny it is. The view is not bad as it is next to a cliff and you can see the famous Casino and the colorful houses on the hills in Avalon. You might like it if you just want to relax next the water. I got bored after 10 minutes.

Not much of a beach. The overall area near the beach is being developed to serve cocktails, rent a cabana, message booths, etc. We rented a Kayak and had a fun time going around in the ocean.

Rent a cabana! What a great way to spend a day on the water. Brandon was fantastic as our waiter for the day...free smoothies and water upon arrival...food was limited, but still tasty. Terrific "home base" for the family to come as go for the day as some wanted to explore and some just wanted to relax!

I guess you can say it is a strip of a beach, not like a whole major beach like you'd see in Waikiki or Huntington Beach. Apparently, you can also rent beach chairs and umbrella. For me, I'd rather go to the bar and cock one back while enjoying the view.

Billed as "Sandy beach, swimming,snorkling,resturant and bar service". Resturant not completed yet, bar service reminicent of small "one man" beach bar. Very little sand actually on beach, water very rocky (as is all of Avalon Bay).

I highly recommend renting the beach chairs and umbrella for 2. Very reasonable price (75.00 for the day). The new restaurant is not yet open so the menu is limited but the service is great and drinks are plentiful. Make reservations during the season or you will miss out.

wonderful food and drinks. Restrooms are clean and nice. New restaurant & shops being built right now so some construction going on but a great place to hang out. Chaise and Cabana rentals, kayaking, snorkeling and beachside massage. There is a fee to enter. Fun place to hang out and meet people.
