This place is remarkable. It is set in the middle of Santa Clara University but is better for it. The mission church is surrounded by some of the original walls which have the most delightful wisteria growing over them. Nearby is the graveyard where many padres, some of whom could not stand one another, are buried close to one another in supreme irony! The church itself has the worn stone tiles of more than two centuries of traffic. I went to a choir recital here and it was heavenly as the acoustics are astounding. There are great cafes nearby, and the Santa Clara University Community are very friendly and helpful.

The Mission is located on the Santa Clara University grounds. The parking attendant gave me a brochure, parking pass, and directions to the visitor's lot and the mission. The campus is very beautiful. Flowers and green grass everywhere. I had downloaded a self-guided tour of the Mission from their website that made it very easy to tour the church. While I was there 2 gentlemen were tuning the mission's organ. The church was otherwise empty, but daily services are still held there. The grounds around the church are beautifully maintained. Many flowers bloom. The roses are abundant and I'm sure will be beautiful in the spring.Wonderful visit.

We had a few hours on our recent trip to Santa Clara and my wife chose for us to visit the local Mission. Our boys do a 5th grade project at their school on different missions throughout the state. The campus that the Mission is located on is beautiful. We walked around and saw all of the historic markers, etc. We were lucky enough to wander into the museum that is located directly next to the Mission. It was free! Tons of old artifacts and cool stuff to look at. Definitely worth a few spare moments.

For those who enjoy beautiful churches with a rich history and a visually outstanding interior that brings you to be in the presence of God....This is one not to miss.

Mission Santa Clara de Asis is both a present-day Catholic parish church and a member of the original 21 California missions chain from the 18th-19th centuries. We attend concerts there regularly; the acoustics are perfect for choral music. (We recommend bringing chair cushions.)

Poor signage to locate, it is located near the center of the campus. Restored several times and relocated because of floods and earthquakes. Very nice inside to see. Worth finding. Inside Santa Clara Universigy

The mission was a great stop in my half day around Santa Clara! I spent about an hour and a half here. I had printed a self-guided walking tour off of the website but they also have handouts inside the mission in the right hand foyer. The only thing that I couldn't see were the bells in the tower but everything else was open. The grounds are simply perfect. This is a great place to take photos and if you happen to be alumni of the university then you can get married in the mission and that would be a gorgeous back drop for photos! I was really happy with my stop here and that I used the self-guided walking map to see and know all the things I was looking at. There is a free museum as well but it didn't open until 11am and I was done earlier than that. Great stop to make! I parked on a side street off of Lafayette near a church so I could just walk across the street near The Adobe and into the mission from the side.

This is one of the better restored or maintained of the California missions. Better yet, still operates as a church. Seriously beautiful gardens.

California history for real. Beautifully restored and cared for, and still a center for community worship and activities. Can't help but feel good during services on high holidays, Catholic or not.

My wife and I needed to occupy ourselves in the San Jose/Milpitas area on a Thursday, so our choice for the morning was to visit the Mission Santa Clara on the campus of Santa Clara University. There are beautiful gardens and stonework, a trellised walkway covered in wisteria that must be amazing in the spring, olive trees that are almost 200 years old, interesting statues of Christ and of Father Serra (founder of the California missions), and of course the church itself. Not wishing to disturb the noontime service which was about to begin when we entered, we did our looking around from the foyer, and it was very beautiful even from that vantage. If you also enjoy wandering a college campus, SCU is a very nice place to do so.

Free access to elegant, beautifully restored old mission church and covered portico with nice sidewalks nearby.

It is a beautiful and very well maintained mission, with gorgeous grounds around! So much was in bloom! One of the most (if not THE most) beautiful missions in California!

Santa Clara is the only mission named after a woman saint. The chapel has beautiful statues and Stations of the Cross. Very refreshing and peaceful.

Historic Mission Santa Clara de Asis. Instituted in 1777, it is the eighth oldest of the original 21 California missions. We visited it and it is a beautiful mission. The mission is located on the Santa Clara University, a Jesuit school. It is used for student services, but mass and other church events are also open to the public.

Definitely a church that you would want to see if you are visiting the California Mission s or Santa Clara. This mission church has been a favorite of mine since I had grown up in Santa Clara. Since it sits on the Santa Clara university campus the outdoor gardens are beautiful too,
