I loved the old course, before it was rebuilt as a 'links'. But I've come to love the new one as well. A little wind on occasion as it's along the river just off the ocean. Staff is good, driving range is good, putting green is great. And the price is fair.

I played Olivas back in early 2002 and with it being an old farm it was hard to pick out what was fairway and what was pasture. The new design is challenging, long par 3's and nice greens. Green speed wasn't terrible slow but average at best. Good value during the summer months- after 4PM is $20 if you walk. We got out just before 4 and finished with plenty of daylight.

I usually prefer golf? Elevation change however this is a great course very excellent greens. Everything is well-maintained and there's a good pace on the course.

An inviting links course. No clubs this trip but I did roll a few on the putting green and it was smooth and fast. I will return.

Olivas Links was completely renovated and changed a few years ago. Most of the existing trees were removed and the course was changed into a "links style" course. It is that but a links course it ain't. The greens are undulating (lilnks style) but they are conventionally sized rather unlike the typical football field sized links greens. And don't plan to bump and run on this course. The kind of grass and the manner in which it is cut does not allow that kind of golf. Rather you still hit the high wedge shot to the pin. Don't misunderstand. I'm not badmouthing Olivas, just pointing out some of the differences from a real links course (of which we have precious few in the U.S.). In fact I thoroughly enjoy playing Olivas and consider it to be one of the better courses in the area. It has a good, thick sod which is well maintained and likewise with the greens. It offers substantial challenge to golfers of all handicaps but it's fair with several good risk/reward holes. Big negative is the absence of a coffee shop. The "pro shop" and check in is in a trailer. I suppose the City spent all its allocation on rebuilding the course and will have to wait a few years for this amenity. So when you visit, BYO.

I enjoyed Olivas. The greens were fast, and it's a true links style layout. Be careful if it's windy though. The breeze whips out there.

Great little spot with nice weather and few crowds. They should upgrade the food served on the cart and then it would be perfect.

Twenty years ago I used to play Olivas Park Golf Course all the time. I moved away and played it for the first time in its current state as Olivas Links. The work they did to this course is outstanding. There is no way to even recognize the old course. It was transformed into a links course that is fantastic. The conditioning is worthy of high-end facilities. Our pace of play was about 4.5 hours and pretty smooth for a weekend. They have not gotten around to building a permanent clubhouse and restaurant. When they do this will truly be one of the best courses in the area, if it isn't already.

I haven't been to the Olivas Adobe (Museum) for some time now. I suspect that the Olivas Links is the same golf course that is next to it? It looks great. I think that my uncle Frank Olivas' original owner ancestor who was given a Mexican land grant (Raimundo Olivas) and who became wealthy enough to build the two-story Monterey-style home by way of driving his cattle to the gold mines in 1849, would approve. Thanks to the City of Ventura for all they do. My mom's sister Loretta married Frank Olivas, her niece Rose married Frank Olivas' son Robert and mom's little brother Ray married Frank's granddaughter, Vera Bauer.

Olivas Links has an unusually friendly and helpful staff. Vince in particular was outstanding on my 1st visit to Olivas Links. The greens keepers made it worth my while to drive all the way from Las Vegas for a round of golf. With a modular office and a modular restroom, Olivas Links may not appeal to those accustomed to country club ambiance off the course. But if you’re serious about playing golf on a well-maintained course than Olivas Links is where to go. I’m looking forward to a return visit.
