the gaslight theatre & music hall

This is a small venue located in northwest Bakersfield. Every seat is a good seat. I am giving it a four star rating because some of the shows disappoint. It isn't because of the performers, but because of the story line. I was disappointed in the Christmas show. There were a few good laughs, but story flat. The little show following was better. The bucket of popcorn is a must to share during the show, but overall food is mediocre. I recommend trying to find a review before spending $23 for the show. They do have discount rate for children and seniors. You can call and have tickets held for you, and pay just before show. But, holiday show had to be paid in advance. It is a fun experience. They need better written scripts.

We've had season tickets to the Gaslight Melodrama for the past three years and the shows are always entertaining; it's great to laugh. The Gaslight Melodrama family are very talented, the small venue is perfect, the food in the Moose Lounge is adequate and there is so much laughter and smiling faces, you feel really good after the show. Our Bakersfield Community really needs to continue to support a business like the Gaslight Melodrama; it's a feel good place with a lot of heart.

With melodrama performances the audience is encouraged to participate. Sigh for the sweet heart and boo the villain. Its always a good time. The gentleman that writes the performances pulls themes from Bakersfield and the surrounding area, making it much more fun

We love going to the melodrama as a family. The shows are always entertaining. The small venue keeps the audience close to the action, and they invite audience participation by having everyone boo the villain and cheer the hero. , The shows have local appeal as they often reference the Kern County community and local landmarks. We especially love the vaudeville act after the main performance. A lot of talented people come together here to put together a great performance, and it's one only a few melodrama style theaters left. This is an attraction that is not to be missed!
