We stayed at the resort and were fortunate to receive a fresh 7" of snow making the whole area a winter wonderland! A great spot for photography as well. A must visit location, just a few miles from 395.

Spent Presidents' weekend up in Mammoth, as I have tried to do annually. The season has been pretty weak snow-wise, which made for kind of weird planning as far as what to do up there, especially since I am not a skier. Normally, the snow is so high I don't have to come up with an excuse to stay in the cabin by the fire. But warm weather made for antsy people, so we decided to venture out to Convict Lake to see if we could walk around since we saw they have year-round fishing.Not only was the view as incredible as always, but we ended up being able to walk the entire loop around the lake. There were only two patches of icy slush on the south side, but the rest was completely manageable, even for people in flat shoes with no traction. We ventured off the trail a bit to try to find a little more snow, but there wasn't a whole lot to be found.So, if you're wondering what to do in this weird in-between time where it's not really winter, but it's not spring or summer either, Convict Lake is your place. Bring a picnic, wander around, and take in the absolutely stunning views.

Likes all around. 2.1 mile hike takes you all the way around the lake. Nothing too hard, good for the whole family. Beautiful views of mountain reflections on the lake in the evening.

a gorgeous lake surrounded by beautiful mountains, cabins, rv sites, pontoon rentals, a store and restaurant... Sounds like a great place for a family trip or reunion. just a few miles off 395 and close to Bishop. I want to go back in the fall to see the Aspens!

The setting is indescribable because of the breathtaking beauty. It's a lake nestle between these two red and white granite monoliths. The background looks like it's been painted, it's so beautiful. Good fishing with boat rentals available. I've seen a bald eagle glidiing above the lake fishing. Cabin rental and camping. Summer holiday activities. Great gourmet restaurant nestled among the aspen that I highly recommend with some unusual entrees such as ostrich, boar and venison. Pricey but what a great meal.

Better to avoid during summer holiday weekends. It doens't feel like wilderness when the lake is lined with cars and RVs. Nothing Special. June Lake is much nicer and less crowded.

Snowy Convict Lake was really awesome. We did not spend much time here, but expericence the beauti of nature.

It's a gorgeous lake and such an interesting story as to why it's called Convict Lake. Don't let the name deceive you from not going! You'll be glad you went...

A little gem that we discovered early one morning. We were the only visitors to this peaceful and scenic place. Wow.

This area has some really cool history. There is a great 2 mile loop trail around the lake that has awesome views of the surrounding mountains. There is also easy accesses to more strenuous and longer day or overnight hikes.

Great place to hike around. My husband and I were actually married at this lake in the spring of 2001. We took the kids there on this trip to see it. Great hike, beautiful scenery!

it was a fairly easy hike. Uphill on the way and down on the back. You can walk around the lake and there is a fishing dock.

Stunning lake. Very quiet, really nice to walk around the lake or maybe do some fishing. You can do boating in summer but it was too cold in Autumn.

Surrounded by incredible mountain peaks, this hidden, clear lake is a true treasure. Only accessible part of the year thanks to snow, it's a great place to kayak.Winds can pick up and make some substantial waves, so a floatation device is always appropriate here along with proper thermal gear.Free boat launch ramp and parking.Good hiking and saw some people fishing.
