Endless terrain. There are Mountains in Washington East of the Cascades, minus the crowds. Endless wild terrain to explore.

This is a huge Forest District running across the top of the NE of Washington State. It encompasses easy access for hiking, fishing, camping and lake access's.When you leave Hwy 20 and get into this forest, you are in a land that hasnt chnged much for eons. The only real issue with the system is the lack of forest management. This isnt the forest services fault, there are so many bleeding heart trust babies whos forfathers made their fortune logging this area, who continuously hault forest sales that would allow the Forest service to manage the overgrown forests. Add this to the fact that fires are now put out instead of allowing them to burn, creates a forest too dense in most cases to hike in.But there are still lots of fabulous trails such as the Kettle Ridge that will delight even the most jaded amongst us.Come and spend some time here, stop of in Kettle Falls at the information center and get more information about the Colville National Forest than you possibly absorb.

Beautiful place to hike, see wildlife, and get away from the stress and hustle of your work week. Four wheel drive vehicle is suggested, I drive a Tahoe, and be sure to have an emergency kit and supplies in your vehicle and a two way radio. Cell service is sketchy although emergency calls should ping off the emergency system.

Despite the budget cuts for trail maintenance we found all the trials we used in good shape and the roads and trailheads also in good shape. This is a beautiful area to hike and we look forward to returning soon. A good resource is James Johnson's 50 Highest Peaks in Eastern Washington and Rich Landers' 100 Hikes in the Inland Northwest. Good description of these hikes and how to get to their trailheads.

Some Idiot posted , Beaver Lodge fireworks,Illegal. If so then the Fire Dept. and the Sheriff's Dept would not have been monitoring the crowd. The type of fireworks displayed ,pyrotek license not required. This year was covered by reporters and photographers. The crowd this year was spectacular. For everyone that complains about this place, Your camping! Its not the Bellagio. It"s a resort for Trail riding , four wheelers and bikes in summer and snowmobiles in winter are just a couple of things done at the resort. Another thing the show is not funded by Beaver Lodge. The show was safe and also the folks that put the show on are careful to clean the docks and the water of all debris. Well coordinated / organized show and crew. This was completely funded by a private party and they are Never compensated by Beaver Lodge! This private party has been putting this show on now for 6 years through the different owners. Great show!

As a young boy I was introduced to the Colville National Forest. I have spent a great deal of my time off ( at least 2 weeks a year , every year ) out and about on this forest. Sadly over the past 2 decades this forest has fallen victim to what so many other forests have. It has been systematically closed down section by section in the name of one endangered species or another. There are more places closed and gated to the public in todays forest than there are open. It started with the Grizzly Bear... then the Caribou... then the Lynx.... then the Bull Trout... I am sure there are a pleathera of other critters that could make the list ... and truth be known I have seen each of these species outside the confines of their gated areas. Evidently they are unable to read the posted signs. My Grandfather was in the CCC's ( Civilian Conservation Corps ) in the 1930's at Camp Sullivan Lake. He helped plant trees and build lookout towers... I remember him in his later years before he passed on lowering his head and getting teary eyed when he heard of the closures... To him it meant that he would be unable to visit places that he cherished in his youth. Some will find the closures inviting... to this I say good for you !! I personally find this just another form of Government mis-management . If you visit this forest look very hard... and I believe you will see. Our forest is easier to manage by locking us out than by actually interacting with the public. The Colville National Forest is beautiful.. the people in charge of it are not !!

We visited the little cabin and chapel that the Black Robes said mass in. Very beautiful and peaceful setting with some history to boot.

There are multiple camping areas in this national recreation area. Most of them have a camp host (a perk for security).Several small communities dot the park, convienent for replenishing supplies!Remarkably, a good fishing spot is hard to come by unless you own a boat.
