The Cutthroat Loop is one of the best places to see larch trees turning colors in early October. It is also one of the best ski tours in the area. I have visited in all seasons and dearly love this place.

This trail is really easy. It is flat most of the way to the lake and you get a lot of scenery for not a lot of work. We went in Mid June when most of the higher lakes were still buried in snow and inaccessible. There was still quite a bit of snow as we got closer to the lake but the trail was easy to find and the footsteps easy to follow. Next time we will take our kids!!!

This hike is a 3 mile round trip with only a slight gain in elevation. If one doesn't have a lot of time (an hour or two) this might be a good bet. It fit in our schedule for the day. It's a pretty lake, but we preferred the Blue Lake hike in terms of scenery. Most of this hike is in the trees, but the reward is a nice alpine lake. It was a little tricky getting around the lake, but there's more than enough spots to enjoy the view.
