This is a beautiful walk when the wild flowers (Camas in spring and others throughout the summer) are in bloom, but wonderful all year long. The displays are informative and well presented. Please stay on the trail.

Went on trail walk on a Tuesday morning. It was sunny and beautiful with the dew shimmering in the ferns. The visitor tower is informative. Seriously, if you dig geology, don't mind a few gunshot sounds from the range, and bring a camera you will definitely have a good time!

It is amazing to see. A little hard to find but well worth the walk to see. It is amazing how a million of years ago God could create such a beautiful place. I suggest going in spring when all the wild flowers are blooming. The little tower that you can read info about and climb to the top is nice. It has a concrete walking trail so a wheel chair could be pushed. However the observation tower is a staircase. It still is an amazing site to see and boggles ones mind how it occurred and all being evenly spaced...it can definitely open up conversations with your children...We went as a family trip. We did not experience any gun fire as one has posted.

Interesting mounds.. but with loud gun fire every second who in their right mind would love to spend the day with their kids there? Maybe a misfire? One of the shooters makes a mistake? No matter how small the chance, the sounds of a war zone does not make for a good family outing. We left in a hurry.

If you liked your geology classes this would be a good park to visit. No one knows what made these big mounds of gravel on the otherwise flat prairie but there are thousands of them of all sizes. The state has done a reasonably good of or providing a lookout and foot paths but otherwise there isn't much to see. It ain't the Grand Canyon but for a quick walk and a place for the kids to hit the restroom it's worth getting off the freeway. Watch out for tickets, the state parks aren't free anymore.

At this time of year the mounds are pretty dried up and brown. But just look at the field of mounds and ponder how they came to be. There are also mounds around the edge of the field where the trees have grown on them for years. Climb the platform for a better view. The gun range at the edge of the field is very annoying.

We spotted this attraction in a tour book and decided to give it a try when our visit to a wildlife refuge didn't work out.We had never seen anything like the mima mounds! There is a nice interpretive section that puts forth the various theories as to how the mounds formed, plus a nice platform for an overview. We enjoyed taking the long trail and viewing the various mounds while getting some exercise. Bring a hat if it is hot, because the area is totally exposed with no shade.Bathroom facilities were his and hers no-flush toilets.

Shooting range close by,, interesting area with some small towns around the area. Take your time to learn more!

The Mima Mounds are great to visit if you like things that are a LITTLE bizarre, and off the beaten path. How the hundreds of mounds, both on the preserve and on private land, were formed is a mystery that hasn't been solved. Everything from glacial retreat, to gophers, to aliens has been blamed...but no definitive answer has ever been decided upon by experts. It is fun to speculate as you wander among them, but, take heed, there is a private gun range next to the preserve, and the prairie's silence is often disturbed by the sound of gun shots.

We saw this in a tour book so off we went to check it out. Interesting mounds out in a rural area. Nice flowers, nice little visitor center with a lookout. Nice paths to walk around on. Well worth the detour to see.
