steilacoom historical museum

So once a year this sleepy little town holds a street fair called the apple cider squeeze! It was awsome! Not only are there tons of chiccy vendors and lots of apple everything but there is live music and all the museums there are open and free or a small suggested donation, there is the wagon shop, the main historical museum, and the historic home owned by the wagon shop owner. It tells the rich history of the town and has some interactive displays for adults and kids alike in every museum. Lots of dog traffic at the fair, so way dog friendly and kid games and fun like poney rides. Plus the apple cider floats made only by one exclusive vendor and boy is it good!! Plus you can use the old fashioned presses to squeeze your own cider with the family but buy a jug early cause they go fast and dont miss you time slot to squeeze. Great local restaurant open in historic building but very packed!! Oh and be prepared to walk up hills because there is very little parking. Its not a lo g walk just steep so I suggest dropping the family off then parking and having them picked up same way. Just part of coastly town walking but there is great beach just minutes from the fair and it a great way to end the day never mind the great weather. This is were you can get your fill of Washington's mainstay crop without filling like your being mobbed.

I have visited the Steilacoom Historical Museum several times, and really like how informative the exhibits are. The kids enjoyed playing dress-up downstairs and exploring the orchard, while I liked learning all about what living in a pioneer town was like. The second time I visited I took a tour of the nathaniel orr home, a well kept pioneer home with original furnishings. The doors are so small, and the frames are so low! I can't imagine using the old-fashioned washing machines, or making all my own furniture... but evidently all this furniture was handmade!The view of the puget sound was spectacular. Afterwards we went for lunch at the Bair Bistro, which made for a lovely day.
