we did the 9.1 mile round trip cape Alava, Down the beach. the Sandy Point. You need to do it at low tide. You need to be in shape as we got to spots that required climbing over trees 15 to 20 feet thick and going up and OVER hills with the use of a rope that was 100 feet high. Would not miss it for the world.

There aren't any pull outs to see the lake just a small area by the Ranger Station. Was disappointed because it is a large lake but you don't get to see much.

It's a long walk -- 3-miles, but it feels like more. But a lot of it is boardwalk, and it's through some beautiful forrest that will make you feel like there may be ewoks hiding in the trees. We took the Ozette trail on the last day of our amazing hike from Shi Shi Beach. It's got some muddy and somewhat strenuous spots near the ocean -- but I think it's easily passable even for kids or folks who don't hike much. It was a little rainy and kinda cool in late May, so consider a rain jacket. And bring plenty of water and snacks. And, of course, a camera. It's beautiful. I believe the only bathrooms are at the trailhead by the ranger station where you park your car.

This is the second largest lake in Western Washington State....and a place that is truly off the beaten path. It is a long way from anywhere tucked away in the exrteme Northwest corner of the state. We were a little disappointed on our arrival because there was nothing really spectacular to see. Apprently the loop trail to the ocean and back is quite beautiful but it was raining and a longer hike than we could handle. There are campsites and primitive cabins to rent. A store and deli located there were not open. Unless you are like us and want to visit every part of our beautiful state....don't bother.

We just hiked about 3 miles here because we started late day and it was still really nice. You can swim at the "Devil's Punchbowl" if you like that crisp, cold water! The photo opportunities are great and it's a nice hike for all levels.

June 4th and 5th, 2012. Excellent site: tall-grass shrouded, level and grassysite 20 paces from the lake. Large and secluded, about 40'x40'. We spent 2 nights here and will go back again with our canoe as the lake is remarkable and very secluded. 3 mile hike to beach is worth the effort (no pets allowed).
