Visited Fort Townsend State Park to check out the Friends Barn for an upcoming wedding in our family. What a nice little park. The ranger was very helpful in opening up the barn so we could see the inside. While we were checking things out a couple of deer wandered by. We walked down from the amphitheater to the water - a short hike to a wonderful grassy spot on the water.

Well, I decided to check reviews and based on that selected this park for overnight stay (luckily only for one night). Place is very average, good tend camping not so good for RV. RV sites were very cramped and close together. very strange given that there was plenty of space around. Beach access- well that was a joke, the beach was filthy and difficult to access. To our shock, nearby pulp mill completed picture of the bay and added some "aroma". We expected pristine wilderness, nice beach and nothing close to it. There were decent nature trails for hiking around but that was the extend of it. I would never come back to this place and if you are looking for place to stay for few days, I would say don't come here.

Beautiful sandy beach, camping, beach combing and fishing. There's a museum on the pier and roads to ride a bicycle.

It's a park ... was nice to stop and relax for a while with the family. We had a nice picnic at the part while taking some time to ourselves while exploring things. The views were great and you could get up close to the water, kids enjoyed looking around and if the day is nice it makes it that much better too!

my favorite kind of souvenir, a little beach great for beachcombing. easy to get togood place for a picnic

Take the time to see this fort and the displays. the volunteers that staff the venues are very knowledgeable and friendly. you should take the time to learn about the people that have defended our country and how they did it.

Most people coming to PT go to Fort Worden and drive right past the turn off for Old Fort Townsend. This tree-filled park is worth the half-mile drive off of the highway. Lots of trails (most are not wheelchair-friendly) with nice camp sites and a group camping area. There's a WWII missile repair silo onsite, and a ramp where you can launch a boat. Lots of history here, and there's an annual civil war re-enactment weekend that's very popular. Very quiet, and lots of bird and owl sightings.

Come for the camping but not the beach. The campsites are big and spaced a good distance apart. Lots of trees... which unfortunately means the mornings can be a bit chilly without the direct sun. Not too busy of place. Shower is decent; takes one token (2 tokens for $1 at the station). Unfortunately the beach has a not so lovely view of the nearby pulp mill. And sometimes you even get the pungent smell. 10 minute drive to PT.

Nice little park. Good hiking. We sometimes take the dogs for a walk there. The forest is lovely. Rhodies in the woods in the spring.

Fort Townsend is the opposite of Fort Worden, in that there is nothing left of the buildings or structures, even though they were occupied (and dismantled) at about the same time. But it has great trails, and good interpretive signs which are worth reading. Definitely worth a visit.

Very nice park for picnics and just chilling out. Clean and nice view of the water. Easy to get too. Need a discover pass to just eat but what can you do. all parks require them.

It is incredible how beautiful the forest is here, and it is just a few miles from Pt Townsend. It is like you've entered into a totally different climate zone as you drive down the road to enter the park. It is a lush rainforest .I believe it is about 450 acres in size, and was an old military fort location established during the civil war. There is tent and RV camping in a gorgeous setting.There are large open grass areas too.One of the trails goes along the bluff and overlooks the bay.You can walk all the way down to the water and have a picnic right on the bay.You will get a nice view of Mt Baker way off in the distance, Pt Townsend , the paper mill , and the Navy's Indian Island . This is a great park for nice walks on the many trails through the trees and ferns.

The setting is as it was when I last visited in 1976. However, the state has done a wonderful job of protecting it.

A beautiful place to walk and feel that you're deep in the woods, away from the burdens of civilization. Easy parking and trail access.

Like being in the middle of no where but just 4 miles off the highway. Each campsite is layed out for max privacy.. Lots of great trails through the woods
