You get a good impression of the 19th century settlement and also interesting information about Camden's role in the civil war.

a great place to visit to reacquaint an important time in our country's history. I feel that with increased traffic the site could enhance and expand

We were so inspried by this site. It is hard to imagine how much more of the revolutionary war took place in not-so-famous places. We are from Boston and we saw things here we never knew abot the revolutionary war

I walked around the site after stopping in the visitor's center. Then I drove over to the Cornwallis house. Unfortunately, it was closed at the time, so I peeked in. This is actually a reconstruction of that house, since the original was destroyed in a fire long ago. Cornwallis commandeered this house from its colonial owner and made it his headquarters.

It is a relatively small site but well worth visiting. Nice visitor Center, log house, colonial house, and a beautiful nature trail.

I enjoyed leisurely walking through the buildings and looking at the artifacts. The descriptions of the items look to be 1970s quality and need badly to be updated. Some Federal funds could really bring the presentation to today's standards like is the case in NC and Virginia.

My wife and I decided to make the nice one hour and a half drive down from the Charlotte, NC area to Camden, SC (taking the secondary roads) last weekend to see the annual Revolutionary War "Battle of Camden" re-enactment. It was a beautiful fall day in an equally beautiful setting for the re-enactment. There were numerous men, women, and children all in period costumes walking about and cooking on colonial period pots and setting up campsites with tents, etc. The battle re-enactors were in full uniforms of the British soldiers and the American colonists - with cannons and muskets and pistols aplenty on both sides. We got some great videos on our cell phone of the battle action. There is a re-built colonial (1777) mansion in the background of the battle-site that adds to the beauty and feel of the place and you can tour the mansion right after the battle ends. There are vendors tents set up in a row to allow ease of shopping for colonial era goods and food etc. Everyone was just great to talk to and very helpful and informative. We loved it. Then you can drive out about 10 minutes to the actual battle field site that is just outside of town and walk many of the available walking-trails around the actual site. The re-enactment is held inside the town limits on a huge expanse of field in front of the colonial mansion ("Kershaw House") for ease of viewing and parking, and the field is cleared (whereas the actual battle-site appears to be now grownup with foliage and trees, etc). The town of Camden is interesting and has a large "Monument Park" in the center which is good to visit with two Civil War and Mexican-American War monuments.

I have been here once for a field trip with elementary school children and once for our family's favorite event (1st weekend in November- battle of Camden reenactment). Outstanding history, beautiful buildings and grounds. We love it! Over 500 reenactors for Battle of Camden and wonderful unique items for sale! The staff are extremely knowledgeable! Bring a picnic...lots of tables under shade trees. Wonderful food available at reenactments and I highly recommend their field trip. All the parents were enamored and they & the students LOVED it! Great value!

This was a nice way to spend the afternoon. Just a short distance from Columbia. A pleasant drive to this historic site.

I had visited the site once before and was able to get service at the office and take a your. However, this time we were visiting with family from the West Coast and we were greeted by very unfriendly staff. Office never opened and staff rushed us out of the way because of school tours. Nothing about school tours or designated hours was posted on site or online. My family was really shocked by the rudeness and it pretty much ruined their perspective of the town of Camden.

I absolutely love this place! It is like stepping back in time! 5 dollars per student and WHAT an education! Our homeschooling group LOVED it! My favorite part of Historic Camden is the 1st week in November! The Battle of Camden is EPIC! 500-600 reenact ors. The place is all set up like a Revolutionary War camp. GREAT SHOPPING and FOOD available! You must go! If it were not for SC we would still be British subjects! Go to Historic Camden and find out why!

We were able to take the dogs with us on a nice, quiet visit to this war site. Plenty of markers with details. Nice place to visit and would recommend it as a outing for family and kids, etc. Take a picnic lunch, blanket and something to drink as there are no tables, chairs, drink machines, etc.

Our family stopped here to break up our drive to Myrtle Beach. We took the self guided tour vs guided. I think it might have been worth it to pay a few dollars for the guided tour. There are plenty of signs explaining where the artifacts came from but I think the additional commentary would be worth it for the non-history buff. The historic homes are beautiful & give a great idea of how people lived back in revolutionary times.

This is where the Kershaw-Cornwallis house sits. It is not the original, that was burned down, but they have reconstructed it on the same site, just like it was. There are other houses on the site also. You can get a real feeling what it was like back in the time of the Revolutionary War.

I am a history buff, I didn't do a tour, it was a hot day, but enjoyed a short visit. I will definitely come back and visit Camden and visit all of the places of interest
