This small museum does a fine job introducing one to the history of the Lakota people. Interesting displays of artifacts and clothing. I was pArticularly interested in the artifacts that were pictorial descriptions of the major events that happened in a year. Staff was very helpful and informative and patient. Highly recommend traveling to the site, experiencing a reservation and learning about a part of our country that is so often neglected and invisible.

We arrived at closing time but the lady working there very graciously turned the lights back on and invited us in. It is a smallish museum and doesn't take much time to go through. It talks about the history of the Lakota people, highlights their leaders, and displays quite a bit of their original clothing. It started as the private collection of Father Buechel, a Catholic priest who worked with the Lakota. This museum also has a good selection of Lakota-made items for sale at a reasonable price. I purchased a beaded ink pen which looks very cheerful in my purse.
