We came in winter so we couldn't really experience the outdoor village, and we had a 1-year-old so we didn't do the planetarium, however there were still plenty of other great exhibits there! We enjoyed all of the exhibit halls, and were pleasantly surprised at the very large mineral/gemstone collection. Great visit!

We are from Raleigh, our museums have a lot more money but although this one is older the museum is awesome and I suggest anyone in the area visit. The layout of the exhibits and the detail is really better than any museum we have seen and that include Raleigh, Boston, Atlanta, etc. They have cool structures outside as well. It shows that you don't need alot of money put into a museum to make it great!

i went here with my wife and 6 year old daughter. She just finished studying the solar system and we thought this would be a great way to "conclude" the unit, something that would bring it all together and make space exciting... Well, we could not have been more disappointed. We live in an amazing age of technology, and that needs to be incorporated into the presentation of just how exciting space is! The monotone droning voice of the recorded "presentation" put me to sleep (not kidding, ask my wife). 5 minutes into the presentation, my daughter asked my wife, "how much longer till its over?". Additionally, they spent the entire presentation talking about "big bang" and evolution....like its a fact that everyone knows we evolved from apes. VERY disappointed....

This is a great place to take the family. We go about twice a year. Their exhibits change so it's always something new. They also have a small outside area with a mini-trail and some buildings representing the time when America was being settled. There are fees for the main exhibits, but other areas of the museum are free.

I have watched this museum grow and grow to its present state of amazing! Displays, information, location, availability are all wonderful. This is a highly significant addition to the life of Gastonia and its future.

Went and saw one of their "movies" in the round theater. Kids loved! Then toured the inside museum. Very entertaining and a great learning visit for young and old!

I have been visiting the Schiele since I was a kid and I never get bored! They have added some things and taken some away, and many have stayed the same. They usually have rotating exhibits different times of the year and the planetarium is great! There is also a nature trail out back with exhibits and live animals. This is a great place for children and adults, and would make a great day trip if you lived out of the area. The price is very reasonable also!

This is a must see destination when you are near Gastonia, NC! The Schiele museum is a real crown jewel of natural history as well as historical information with numerous fine exhibits spread throughout several large buildings, trails to walk & experience life many years ago. The "green roof" is awesome on the latest addition to the Schiele Musem & this is a great palce to spend an entire day if you wish to see it all & expereince the museum to the max. The City of Gastonia & local Board of Directors do an amazing job & service to the Schiele Musem visitors to provide such a high quality museum & outdoor exhibits. This is a must see destination when you are near Gastonia, NC, just a few miles west of Charlotte.

The walking trail was very neat! It was probably the best part of the whole thing for me. They had renovations going on the roof. It was very noisy. It made me leave the area I was in quickly because of it. Overall it was a good little museum. Worth the $7

Big city atmosphere in a small town. My grand kids love to see the exhibits as well as the live animals.

The Schiele Museum is starting to show it's age and has a lot of stairs to go up and down between exhibits. The permanent exhibits are good for young children to learn the names of animals. There is a planetarium and I recommend you check their website for times of shows. The outside exhibits are interesting and there is a nice gift shop at the entrance of the museum. Good activity on a rainy day.

"They have a dinosaur!" said our grandson. I think that is the first thing children notice as you walk in the entrance. The skeleton towers above you. Great local history. Great science! Kid-friendly with a back country to explore.

Stopped by the museum just to see the outdoor display of old 18th century buildings. They were moved from other places and were reconstructed on site to show how the people lived then. There were 2 goats, 1 named Peaches who is an endangered species. Met a volunteer who said they have outdoor displays that show how the buildings were built and discuss how meats and foods were preserved. It was very interesting and we look forward to going back when we have more time to see the whole museum.
