Played this course after Mid Pines. It was in great shape (January). Greens were excellent. A notch below MidPines, but solid choice. Clubhouse reminds me of old muny course.

This is a Donald Ross course That has been let go as the upkeep had not been here. Facilities very limited as this does not cost much to play and if you play you will see this. Does have unique holes for the Ross followers but the lack of upkeep is a bit of a turn off. The used to be owned by the elks club. Again this one for the pinehurst golfer on a budget.

Tried Sunday breakfast there Just bacon eggs and hash browns. The hash browns were out of a box not sliced and fried fresh. Lot better places for breakfast in Southern Pines.

This is a must play course. We visited the week before the Open at Pinehurst and easily reserved a tee time. Our time was right behind their local dew sweepers early in the AM. The local golfers all made us feel welcome as did the staff. They even insisted that we go on the first tee time. We did and enjoyed the course by ourselves. The greens were perfect and the Ross design was obvious. I will return to this area next year and will put this course down as a "must play again" course. Don't miss it if you have the chance!

Our group of 16 plays here often as our first course during our annual trip to the area. A nice bonus this year is that they have added GPS's to the carts. especially useful if you hadn't played before. Course was in great shape and is just right for the warm-up course to begin a week of golf.Good food and nice people. Highly recommended.

The course was very challenging, and the greens were slow. It was difficult to get the ball to the hole. Maybe it was just the 4 of us. But the scenery was great and the layout was interesting. It was hilly and challenging but made for a good outing.

This was the first of 4 rounds that we played in the Pinehurst area on a guys golf trip in 2014. The course was a good warmup for our planned stops at Legends, Mid-South and Pinewilde. The pro shop, bar and restaurant are all tired and need a serious renovation. Service was poor to average.A decent course, but with so much variety in Pinehurst I would not return.

My son and I were traveling back from a spring break golf trip to the Wilmington / Cape Fear area. It was the middle of the day, and we were passing right by Southern Pines, so we decided to add a last round to our vacation. I texted a friend who is very familiar with the Pinehurst / Southern Pines area, asking where he thought we might be able to get on with short notice, and he recommended Southern Pines Golf Club. I called from the road, and the staff was happy to accommodate us. We were greeted like locals, we paid a VERY reasonable green fee, and we walked right out to the first tee. The course is classic Donald Ross, except instead of Pinehurst's trademark crowned greens you get multi-tiered greens with sneaky slopes and breaks. its awesome elevation changes are reminiscent of the Ross-designed Grove Park Inn course. If you are a low ball hitter like me you'll appreciate the ability to run the ball up on nearly every hole, but miss left or right and you'll find deep, penalizing bunkers. While many local courses have surrendered to the North Carolina summer heat and replaced their traditional Bent Grass greens with hybrid Bermuda, Southern Pines has stuck by their Bent greens -- and they were in perfect shape. Don't expect a fancy clubhouse or extensive practice facility; this is a golfer's golf course. I will definitely be back. Highly recommended!

Incredible Donald Ross layout in the sandhills of NC. Challenging but fun layout. Greens were immaculate! Look forward to visiting again. Only complaint would be the clubhouse is out of date and does not offer a lot of items for visitors to purchase (shirts, hats, etc).

I absolutely love this golf course. When you play it with hickory golf clubs, you can really appreciate its history and the Donald Ross design. The course was in great condition and the greens are awesome. Then stop by the lounge where the service was fast and friendly. This is a MUST stop while in Pinehurst.

I attended a conference here, but didn't stay in the hotel. However, the food was great--much better than most conference center food--and the service was fantastic. I can only imagine that an extended stay here would make you feel like royalty. The facilities are gorgeous!

This place serves has the home course for my sons golf team. The course is nicely laid out and has some very beautiful scenic spots. It always seems to be in great shape for the March time frame and can sometimes get busy. The staff all are very friendly. Sometimes for lunch the set up a barbecue outside which is a nice treat.

Rumor has it this was Donald Ross' very first course design. It is certainly a great course. It is short so fun easier to play, maybe 6300 yards from the tips. It is much more affordable than the Pinehurst courses. I would rate the conditioning a 7 out of 10. The range is pretty bad. They have a small restaurant called Mulligans which offers good food for lunch...nothing fancy, but good. Worth playing though for sure.

It may not be #2 or Pine Needles, but it is an interesting design with some very good holes that is well worth playing during any visit to the Sandhills.Friendly staff goes out of their way to make you feel welcome.

Always a favorite when we visit Pinehurst. Greens had been recently aerated and were very sandy, but otherwise, the course was in pretty good shape for February. You can tell they are working on making conditions better, and you can also tell they have some work to do. Staff was friendly, pace of play was fine, a very enjoyable trip.
