The Hancock County Historical Society - includes two buildings - the Old Log Jail and the Chapel in the Park. The Old Log Jail is a very unique structure in that the upstairs rooms were the jail cells, and all of the logs have nails embedded every couple of inches or so to prevent the prisoners from chiseling their way out. The Old Log Jail Museum contains a nice collection of local Civil War memorabilia, early medical displays, and some early household items. The Chapel in the Park is a hidden gem. This building contains an extensive display of local history items in the basement - including the original Democrat Rooster - the official symbol of the Democrat Party which was started to be used due to a historical event in Greenfield. A state marker is outside of the historical society with details on this event. The Chapel also has a great display of other local history items - from county businesses, important families and unique items from the county. An overall great place to visit.
