I went to see the Brand New very popular "American Sniper" at the Castle Theater on a Tues night. My experince started with a friendly ticket sales girl handing me a blue token with my ticket??? When I asked about the token I was told it wss for FREE POPCORN TUESDAY!!!!! Awesome start to a very nice experience. In full disclosure I grew up in NC but have not lived in town for many years so have not been inside the Castle for 25+ years. Unfortunately, I have an ailing parent so I am back in this small town looking for pleasant activities. I was very pleasantly surprised at the highly maintainef quality of the lobby, restroom and auditorium theater. The inside is huge where the show is played and has the elegance of yesteryear with a high quality of today. I went in to wash my hands fot the FREE popcorn and the restroom was immaculate! I am one who believes the restrooms tell the real story on a place. I felt very good about finding my way to a seat in the dark knowing they were so dilligent in restroom cleanliness. I wasn't worried about sticky floors and dirty seats while trying to decide which aisle. The sad part of my visit was I certainly had my choice of seats because there was probably only a dozen of us. Had this been a movie in a city like Indianapolis my ticket, popcorn and coke would have been $30. but instead at the Castle my ticket, popcorn & coke total was $11.00!!!! A nightime showing ticket is ONLY $7.00, not only does it have the gorgeous oldtime ambience but it has the pricing from days gone by. If this was in a rehabbed area of a major city every hipster would line up outside clammoring to get in. I hope some who love a good deal, old architecture or friendly will take the time to drive to the Castle which is about 5-10 min off of I-70. I truly hope the people of New Castle realize just how lucky they are and support the theater so they never lose their treasure....or the rest of us don't lose it either.
