You can enjoy this park near the parking area, and you can also walk down to the beach. Sprecher Travelling Beer Garden was visiting here this week --- nice attraction! Dogs are welcome at this park, but must be leashed. Same at the lakefront --- You can walk your dogs, but they should be leashed.

Lake Michigan isn't very small, but it's hard as hard to get to when you only have a short time in Mequon. All the land around it is privately owned, the roads near it prohibit parking and the Audubon place is closed after office hours and charges for entry. Doctors Park is a very nicely maintained local park with free parking and access to the lake shore. Folk go there with dogs and kids etc. I think there are concession stands in the summer. I was there in thick snow with the whole lake iced over, small ice-bergs, snow caves and all sorts. Very impressive sight if you're not familiar with cold weather on that scale. There is another small free-access park a few miles north (Virmond Park), but I couldn't get down to the shore there. It does have better views though.
