The current exhibit of guitars is most interesting. This week-end there was a luthier demonstrating how to make a guitar. There will be more programs and music throughout April and May. Check it out!

We were able to tour this house - get the tickets at the museum across the street - and it was very impressive. The Yawkeys made their fortune in lumber and the use of wood inside the house was extensive and really well-done. It was built in 1901 and had some of latest amenities - flushing toilets and electric lights - but the beautiful wood carving and paneling really impressed us. Much of the furniture is original and the grounds are very lovely also

I grew up in Wausau but was still shocked to see this mansion restored to its original beauty. The woodwork, the furnishings, even the china and glassware rival anything I have seen in palatial homes I have toured in the US. Most of it is original and shows no wear after 100+ years! There is an expert docent to give the tour and he truly enjoys his work. Do not miss if you are in the area.

The personal tour of the house was extraordinary! Now my father, mother and I went on it and he was so patient with our enthusiasm. I am a certified stenciled and my Dad was a faux finisher and wood sealer and decorator. We loved the little details in the house especially the ships room! The fining and kitchen were just fantastic! The guide was ever so informative and appreciated our talents as I had been to Italy while we were Air Force! I loved the Sorrento table in the sitting area and the entry flooring looked like it could be Sorrento!

I walked here from the Everest House. Nice building, wonderful exhibits. Good section on the Civil War. of which I am a scholar. Met George there. He's the guy to talk with. In the hour I spent with him I felt like I made a friend for life. If you like exploring local history, go here. Dang, that was a nasty flood in 1913!

This is the only fully preserved home of its kind in the area. The guided tours are worth the money and take you back in time. There are details in furnishings and craftsmanship to suit everybody. Some in our group were taken to the daughters room and dresses. Some admired the actual china dishes. I marveled at the craftsmanship, particularly the detailed inlay work done prior to power tools. Not to mention the other fine furnishings such as displayed in the dining room. And you can rent that dining room. A place where the founders of Marathon Electric, Wausau Insurance, and other businesses started. This house is a National Landmark. If the history and house is not enough then check out the sunken garden. There is much more to see than meets the eye. There is work in progress to further this part of the restoration to exacting details.
