The Oriental is a huge movie palace from 1927. In the late 1980s, it was divided into three theaters. As unfortunate as that development was, it was done as tastefully as possible. The original big screen is still intact with the two new theaters in back. Much of its silent era charm and original decor is still there. There is great audio as well as a great concession stand. They show plenty of independent and foreign films here. Also, it is the leading venue for The Milwaukee Film Festival each fall.It is regularly named one of the top ten movie venues in America. For any hardcore movie buff, a visit here is a pilgrimage.

You have not experienced Milwaukee if you have not enjoyed a movie at the Oriental. It has all the decor and feeling of an old theater along with the best popcorn. Newer seats have been added with cup holders. You can't go wrong catching a new and art film here. Only challenge is the location of the restrooms. A great experience and step back in time on the diverse east side. A must do!

Love the ambiance of the old fashioned theater. Never crazy crowded. Comfortable seats. One of 2 theaters in Milwaukee that still use real butter on their popcorn. That's important. The other is the Downer. Not that oily fake butter in other theaters. The Oriental and Downer are always my first choices.

I love seeing movies here!! The place is absolutely beautiful. Watching a movie here makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. It was built almost 90 years ago and has an East Indian theme. The seats are not as comfy, obviously, as seats in new modern theaters, but who cares! The only real downside is that there is only a couple movies playing here at a time, usually independents, occasionally a blockbuster. Oh, and don't forget to go when they have the Rocky Horror Picture Show!!

Even if you do not come here to see one of the interesting independent movies offered, come to check out the building. It is beautiful, ornate, fascinating, and I wish it's walls could talk. The Saturday organ mini concert should not be missed, and the popcorn is real movie popcorn that you just cannot find much anymore. I LOVE this theater and try to get her a couple times a month. Its too bad they divided up the theater into sub theaters, but I suspect that was necessary to stay in business. The middle theater is not to be missed, so much eye candy.

I went her for the Great Gatsby premiere dressed in period attire and had a great time. Perfect setting for any retro film. After the film we went to Victor's disco where party kept on rolling!

I have been going to the Oriental for over 40 years. I love the old classic styling. The popcorn is Freshly made. You can even buy alcoholic beverages to take into the theather. Attend during the Milwaukee Film Festival for a double bonus.

Stopped in here for a movie and was blown away with how beautifully the theater has been kept up. The screen and seats have clearly been updated, but not in a way that compromises the character of the setting. They have a good selection of new movies. Definitely worth stopping by to take a look.

I never get tired of seeing the beauty that is the interior of this historic theater. The fact that they did an amazing job of adding two smaller theaters under the balcony while preserving the grandeur of the main theater is a credit to the owners. There is nothing better than sitting in the main theater waiting for the 7 pm show on a Friday or Saturday, eating popcorn, and hearing the Kimball Theater Organ played live.

My husband and I were visiting Milwaukee and stumbled upon this theater. It is 87 years old and incredibly charming. Landmark theaters are our favorites no matter what city we are in, but this was probably our favorite one. It was also great to enjoy a glass of wine during the film. We can't wait to return on our next trip.

The Oriental is a delightful throwback to movie palaces of the 1920s-40s. The interior is truly a visual treat. If moviegoing for you is more than just watching a film - i.e., a complete experience to be enjoyed - going to a show here makes a trip to Milwaukee worthwhile.

Great place! Architecture of the theater alone is worth seeing. They carefully pick the movies shown there and I can always count on the Oriental to have the movie I want to see.

Time has stood still. The Oriental allows you to step back to a time of grand theatre architecture and ambience. The bar is open for you to enjoy that G&T or that glass of wine. And for an extra special piece of history, take in the Saturday midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show!

I will always go to the Oriental first when they are playing a movie that I want to see. The organ on Saturday nights is a plus, and the atmosphere is out of this world. Keep it up!
