I have traveled around the world and seen many museums - but nothing has ever moved me like the Christian Sanderson Museum. It is the extraordinary intimacy of the collection - from a scrap of cloth off Lincoln's casket to the Valentines Christian received as a teacher decades ago - this is the story of a man's life, of the times in which in he lived, of the history he collected, of the love that he bore for his family, and of the friends who cherished him enough to capture his spirit in their art and preserve his legacy through their efforts. Looking at a flag that his mother sewed by hand, with a label indicating where she obtained the bits of cloth along with a note writen by Christian recording that this was the last flag she made "before I lost her" - one feels moved to tears at the profound honestly of his actions - he seems to have recorded everything that came into his world with equal attention, devotion, and honesty. The breadth of this collection speaks to his great curiosity and wide interests, while the deapth of detail to every item tenaciously retained against time stands as a testiment to one man's passion for the world in which he lived. This collection has the power to open up a whole, miraculous experience to the viewer. I feel grateful to have been enriched by the wonder of Christian Sanderson's life and his life's work. Don't miss it!

At first the collection of Christian Sanderson sounded like a hoarder's collection turned museum folly, but, as we toured the small house and peeked at every item for display we soon realized that this museum was a great introduction to what we would see the next day at Brandywine River Museum! In every room there were drawings and paintings of N.C.Wyeth, Andrew Wyeth, Jamie Wyeth and every other member of the Wyeth family! The story told by this unique man through his collection of items that reminded him of important events in history is a thorough revelation of the community of Chadds Ford from the 19th to 20th century. If you are contemplating a visit to the Brandywine River Museum then you should definitely preceed it with a visit to the Sanderson Museum. We spent two hours there mesmerized by this collection.

It is very difficult to describe this museum. It is more a tribute to the experiences of a( "time traveler" without electronics

This small museum has a great collection of art and historic artifacts from the Revolutionary War to the mid-20th Century. It is a view of history through the eyes of one man and definitely has something for everyone! Not to be missed!
