The recently remodeled museum is a wonderful start to the tour. Several rooms of artifacts, models with good information provided by recordings, posters and staff. Jim & I are part of the reenactment for Ligonier Days [Trents Company - British Camp] We have a lot of fun getting everything ready to show the travelers/visitors to the fort what the life and times were like. We cook the foods onsite that we would have had, play music that we would have had, demonstrate skills [weaving, lace making, blacksmithing, etc] that would have occurred at the fort. And then there is the battle reenactment - always well done. As a visitor, I have enjoyed watching the fort area expand to show more of what was there. I so much enjoy watching the visitors faces light up when they ask questions about what we are doing and get to see what we do and how we would have lived during the seige.

This is a beautiful place to stop for history buffs and teaching children about the way of life early on. Buildings have been recreated on archaeology findings. Your visit gives you the feeling of living in a garrison of this type. Rooms are furnished with mannequins in period dress and storehouses are full. I saw a number children while there who were really enjoying themselves running on the grassy knoll, looking and commenting on the exhibits. Good supply of armaments and large number of buildings. The museum part was very informative before going out in the fort. Staff gave a brief introduction and answered questions. Although I am not a history buff I did enjoy my visit because of the large number of exhibits. It also gives me greater appreciation for the lifestyle I have today.For those who have trouble walking be aware that the climb is uphill and surface of the side walk path is somewhat uneven

We were in the area from Ohio w/ friends the third week of October, on a Saturday afternoon. We had no idea this Fort closes at 4pm !!! on a Saturday?!?!?!? The two workers were leaving as we pulled up, and didn't smile, wave, or anything. Bummer. I was able to take some pics over the barbed wire fence for my dad to see. It is a pretty impressive site and it sure would've been nice to tour the museum and grounds on foot. Oh well ... at least we can say we were there. Doesn't seem to be a problem with parking ...

Fort Ligonier has informative and interesting aspects both inside and out. The town of Ligonier is also a nice place to visit with many shops filled with beautiful items.

Enjoyable to walk at your own pace and just imagine what that four must've been like so long ago. Very knowledgeable volunteers willing to talk with you and your kids about the history of the fort.

the 2nd full weekend in oct is Fort Ligonier days....worth the drive from wherever you are....takes us about 1 1/2 hours from the south hills of pgh....parking is in a field 5$ well worth it...they have a parking shuttle but it is really not worth it since it basically drive you across rt 30 and that is it...be prepared for walking and crowds...we go on sat...fantastic parade...plenty of crafts everywhere and food everywhere....make sure you get a map so you dont miss anything and take cash..so much easier....the fort is also open,,for 20$ a person we decided to skip it this year since we had already seen the reenactments last year..spent the whole day just walking around Ligonier...take some of the side streets and really enjoy the beauty of the town...be warned--there are plenty of porta potties but they can only hold so much and by later in the afternoon it is not good...they are basically your only option though unless you eat in a restaurant...

What a very nice celebration. There where over 150 crafter's and way too much food to choose from. Just strolling along the streets of this historic town was pleasure enough without the festival its self. The Craft booths seem quit different from the northern festivals, not the usual wares. A perfect time of year to take in all of the fall colors. We will try and return next year!

This restored fort and museum is very informative. You always hear about washington's failure with the French but this museum does an excellent job explaining how the British and colonists succeeded in taking Pittsburgh.

Our guide was very knowledgeable, the site is perfectly maintained, and the museum interesting. The historic events at this Fort are well defined.

Walking through the reconstructed fort was very enlightening to see how the British fought and lived in "the wilderness". More time was even spent on the historical artifacts-three galleries rich in art, warfare, history, etc. picnic tables are available along w/gift shop. GPS wasn't accurate but well worth 1/2 day exploring!

We have not seen such a complete reproduction of a Colonial fortress. We thought the museum exhibits, the handbook and the guides came together to give us a real insight into life in a fort in the 18th century. The docents were very generous with their time answering questions and connecting with guests on a personal level. It's worth a visit

While I was planning a trip through PA on the way to a family wedding, a co-worker mentioned Fort Ligonier and I looked it up. After checking out the website and reviews, I added it to our itinerary (I traveled with my son, 11, and my mom, 70s) and am so glad we went. The museum is very nicely done and put the French & Indian War into perspective as the start of a world war and explained Fort Ligonier's and the entire region's role. The re-constructed Fort is awesome and we enjoyed wandering around on our own, reading the signage, and speaking to the historian who was onsite within the Fort. I would have loved to see re-enactors there, but I'm not sure if we would have gotten as much out of the various buildings, fortifications, and weapons if there had been a distraction(?) I am really glad we took the time to visit and would like to go back sometime when they're doing re-enactments; I highly recommend it for families with kids who are learning about this time period in history, as it will bring it alive for them. NOTE: This Fort is built on a hill and requires walking on grass/non-paved walkways, so keep that in mind if visiting with anyone with mobility issues.

I got a ice tour from a young man of the fort. Very large fort and deceiving from initial sight. Very close to downtown. Plenty of parking

Our party of 4 arrived on a rainy Sunday, just as they were opening (open noon-4:00 PM on Sundays). The resident historian was on hand at the door and provided a very comprehensive and easy-to-follow introduction for our European guests. There is a beautifully appointed and interesting indoor museum, and a large outdoor rebuilt fort with many out buildings.Even though it was raining off and on during our 1 1/2 hour visit, the clouds parted just long enough for the re-enactors who were camped in residence this particular weekend to put on a show for the gathered crowd who braved the weather: about 7 or 8 participants marched to oral commands, demonstrated an inspection, and fired muskets complete with several different firing techniques. We could not have asked for a better experience and understanding of the War of 1812, in spite of inclement weather. Well worth the entry fee.

Fort Ligonier is simply fabulous, have to see for yourself, a must-see!!! Lots of neat structures, fun for kids and adults!
