A nice quiet park, well maintained trails. A great place to let the kids run wild. I enjoyed my afternoon here.

I made a mistake and rode my motorcycle across the steel bridge to see lock #29 on the canal. I got some funny looks and quickly realized my folly. I must have missed the sign. Once up there I got to talking with a wonderful who guy who worked there. (He'll remain nameless because I don't want to get him in trouble). Eventually he said "just shut that thing off and I'll show you around". He gave me a full tour of the lock, showed me the "nuts and bolts" and explained the operation. He was also well versed in the history of the canal and the Palmyra area. Head up to the lock and maybe you'll catch him. But, please park in the parking lot below. Thank you.

This small (but large!) park has a lot to offer, although not much of it can be viewed from your car or parking lot. The landmark piece of this park is the bridge that crosses over the bit of canal wall showcased in the middle of the park. There are also kiosks and signboards that show locations and explain the history of the Erie Canal, from the 1820s to the modern day. There are pavilions that can be rented for parties, and the lands of this park also connect to the canal trail that run alongside the lengthy waterway. This is a great place to take a lunch and enjoy a nice day. (But please, clean up after your dog...no one enjoys having to dodge the "poochie piles.")This was a very pleasant afternoon, and I would gladly return here anytime.
