Recently visited Jim Thorpe to ride the Lehigh Gorge railway and see the fall colors. After the train ride, stopped in the church and were very glad we did. Took the tour with a guide that knew everything there was to know about the church. VERY interesting and learned a lot about the history of the town as well. There are a number of Tiffany stained glass windows, including a large one made by Tiffany himself that has several unique features and is valued in the millions of dollars. Allow 20-30 minutes.

The church is a magnificient structure. If in town, take the tour. Where can you see stained glass windows made by Tiffany himself. I have been in the church several times and always been in awe of the beauty. Pastor John is so very friendly, he welcomes everyone. Some of the parishoners put on a full meal every month- free! Our group goes to the meal to support their efforts, and then each of us gives a donation. The parishoners are so gracious and generous. Although not a member, I appreciate the historical and arcutectural significance of the building.

This is one of the most beautiful churches I have seen...period!The fact of the stunning brass work, the pipe organ, and the over quality of thecraftmanship and design of the building makes a must see. Plus the engineering challenge of building and incorporating the church into the side of a mountain is amazing. Then think of this. The church boasts of the 2nd oldest enclosed elavator in the US! Major coolness points!

The church is one of a kind ... Stained glad is exquisite! I hope that the original entrance can be restored via historical funding.

We toured the church on a Saturday (9/13/14) and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The history of the church was fascinating. Tour guide was very knowledgable and informative. The church is built into the side of the mountain. The imported floor tile, Tiffany stained glass, the 1912 Otis Elevator and other details were amazing. They charge $5 per person for the tour and if you are in Jim Thorpe and see the sign out front that says "Open" you MUST stop in and take the tour!

This was a great little tour; the church is a historical landmark with a wonderful history and a wonderful story. The fee is a $5 donation per person; but it's definitely worth the price of admission. Tiffany windows adorn the windows and the tile floors are magnificent.

This is a unique place. Tiffany windows, a beautiful sanctuary with a gorgeous altar, painted ceilings, tiled floors, an ornate pulpit and totally cool baptismal font. Unlike any other church in the area. The current small congregation struggles to fund maintenance of this church on the National Historic Registry. The tour is free, but consider making a donation. I'm sure it will be appreciated. I interacted with several church members. All were extremely friendly and welcoming and our guide seemed very knowledgeable.

Some wonderful stained glass and parishioners who are rightly proud of their heritage.See the Tiffany windows. Look up at the painted ceiling. Look at the ornate metalwork.Now I know this sounds weird but one of the best things is the lift (elevator). The oldest operating lift of its kind in the US! It's big enough for a coffin (casket) and six bearers.I loved the whole thing. So a big thank-you to Mary and Father John! You shouldn't miss it.

It's a lovely church with a pretty cool history. Our guide was very young and nervous (he said it was only his third tour). He gave a decent tour all things considered and we enjoyed seeing the stained glass windows. The upstairs baptismal was really neat too.My only issue was the constant hard selling to go to a mass ceremony the next day. I'm not a religious person at all and I just wanted to see the building as a piece of architecture not a holy experience. But he was very nice about it and wasn't the least bit offensive...just a bit pushy.

This old church was absolutely beautiful. The beauty of the interior is as beautiful as the architecture of the exterior.

My wife and I were walking down Race Street looking at the church and a gentleman saw us. He came over and gave us the whole history of the church and town. An amazing story. We never got his name.

Stained Glass Windows, the whole architecture is amazing. Even has an elevator put in by Mary Packer Cummings.

Active church built during the 13 Millionaires period (back in the heyday of coal, there were 20 Millionaires in the US and 13 lived in Jim Thorpe, allegedly), so no expense spared. Lovely building.
