I'm a History Fan from Northumberland, PA, and this is a museum full of History! This museum is based on the History of the City of Sunbury, Pennsylvania, going back over 2,000 Years with the Indian Exhibits. Many Iroquois Indians lived in this area until around the 1750's. One of those Indians is the famous Indian named Chief Shikellamy, who died in Sunbury (then called Shamokin) in 1748. Today, there is an entire school district about him.

This was a nice little museum for this area. It wasn't loaded with artifacts, but there was some nice items on display. I enjoyed the excavated colonial copper coins. I just wish they were labeled as to which kind they were. They all didn't look like King George coppers. An original British cannon excavated from the river was on display. The miniature replica fort in front of the museum was cool. The original well and powder magazine were located on the adjoining neighbor's property, but the staff indicated they had no problems with visitors there. There was also a small store with a number of books on the area's local history.
