Be ready for a rigorous climb! Climbing the steps is a real exertion. Take your time and you'll make it. The views are fine once you get to the top.

We arrived and there was ample parking. The steps going up looked a little daunting at first, but it was no problem. We walked up toward the top and enjoyed the fall colors of the trees and watched the local black squirrels run around. While we were there we met an older gentleman who said he climbed the stairs three or four times a day and he said there were 303 steps total. Several places had bench's built in to stop and rest if need be. Once at the top, there were very nice views of the local area.

As a frequent visitor to Saugatuck, one place to go, that is a constant, is Mt. Baldhead. The sand dune has a 302 step climb to the top and provides a breathtaking view of the Saugatuck Harbor. Once at the top, I suggest walking down the sand dune, on the other side, to go to Oval Beach and enjoy a view of Lake Michigan. The view ifs well worth the 302 step climb!

300+ steps up to the top, with several landings to stop and catch your breath. The view from the top is magnificent- the lake, the harbor and the dunes. Perfect to see the fall colors.

We climbed the steps after dinner to watch the sunset and boy it needs a make over up there!! one side of the "viewing" area is closed off and the other side is looking towards the river and lake. Glad I did the stairs for the exercise but disappointed thet there was no view for the sunset. Blah!!!

There are a lot of stairs to climb, but well worth it for the view at the very top! Wish the day we climbed the stairs wasn't as overcast as it was. But we enjoyed the view just the same.

Those 302 steps are a great workout. And the informational boards within the park are definitely worth a read.

Long stairway to the top but view of lake was limited. View of town was obstructed by trees. Walked a half mile through sand to the lake. But local historic museum at foot of the stairway had excellent info how to pick up trash to preserve the beaches! Showed different types of trash and their varying decomposition rates.

Don't skip this attraction! Take the walk up the outrageous number of steps to see a gorgeous view. Continue walking off the boardwalk onto the sand and follow the trails all the way over to Oval Beach. Be sure to have proper shoes on so you can effectively walk in the sand. Take your towel, suit and sun umbrella with you and be prepared. No amount of tourist dollar can buy this opportunity. THIS IS FREE!! Enjoy nature, God's beautiful creation and the ability of your body to get you up those stairs and through the sand. Benches are available at every other flight of stairs to rest.

The 302 steps to the top of Mt. Baldhead are a must. There are seats for those that need to rest on the way to the top and a sitting area once you get to the top. You can either come back down the steps or go down the dunes to Oval Beach. The museum is free of charge and so are the steps to the top. A must do if in the area!

Fun little climb, a little tiring. If you plan on going all the way to the lake you might want to arrange a ride back unless you want to walk back up to the top.

It was a long climb up to the top and I was expecting a better view. But when we got to the top you could barely see Saugatuck because of all of the trees and foliage. I would say that early spring and winter would be great times to climb Mount Baldhead.

Take an amazing journey up the steps of this gigantic sand dune! I had to stop, and rest several times, before I reached the summit. I just wish that people wouldn't write on the wooden railings, as this was the only detraction from an otherwise perfect outing. The sand trail, on the other side of the summit leads to Oval Beach. Parking is limited at the base of the staircase.

As others have said, the views from the top of the steps is great! You can just barely make out the chain ferry if you look hard enough going across the river. Make sure you check out the chain ferry attraction - $1 each way per person. The climb down the other side with the sand dunes is quite difficult if you don't have the write shoes. The sand is fairly deep and it's a tough hike - only hike back up if you want the challenge! We opted to take the 10-15 min walk from the oval beach parking lot around the climb (south side of the hill.) The side route only has a few small hills and is a lot more tame than climbing back up the dunes.
