historic downtown main street

Great old main street USA with a good assortment of interesting shops with a couple of good restaurants (Lamplight Grill and Bluewater Cafe). The courthouse, armory, churches and the mostly original storefronts make this a real time capsule and at Christmas the tree literally in the middle of main street is really great. Worth a ride out for lunch or dinner!

This was my first time here. I was impressed how beautiful and well preserved the buildings are kept. The streetscape is we'll planned, and plenty of parking.

First time here very beautiful homes. Not sure what nationalities first settlers were but took a lot of pictures to do research on the homes.

I've lived in several small towns, but Ionia's downtown area is special. Hollywood could have filmed "It's a Wonderful Life" here! On Main Street, a few buildings have been modernized; but most appear to be pre-WWII architecture -- and some are quite a bit older than that. The stately mansions just beyond the downtown area date to the late 1800s, and the library is housed in a very old converted mansion. Don't drive through the downtown area... it's made for walking!

The town of Ionia Michigan should be very proud of the architectural heritage. The city hall, theater and library are very beautiful.
