Great place to stay, and well maintained. This park is clean, and easy to get to. The sites are good size, and reasonably priced, with full hook ups for campers. There are even inside restrooms with showers. Now, the view. St, Claire river is right there, and many freighters go North and South during the day and night. Algonac is just a few miles to the South, and Marine City is just to the North. Lots to eat, and lots to do.

The location is great being across from the St. Clair river. Yaou can do a number of activities including fishing. The trails are also nice and you are not that far from grocery shopping or antique shops.

We stay here quite often as it is close to the border and a cheap place to camp. Overall its a nice campground but does not have very much for kids to do. They do have a park but no place to swim. You could swim in the river but the St. Clair river has a very fast current and I would not recommend this unless your a strong swimmer. The riverview campground seems to be kept up better than the wagon wheel campground. We usually stay in the wagon wheel since it is quite a bit cheaper but the mosquitos are bad back in there. The weekend are quite busy at this park but during the week it is super quiet. My only complaint is the bathroom facilities they only clean them once a day and that is at night. They have a nature trail which is nice but part of it is through grass and rough terrain. Overall its a close park to go too from sarnia and just far enough away to be able to relax.

This park is about as simple and unadorned as any state park might be, but the basic services are all there and the facility is clean. Generally full on the weekends there is access to the St. Clair River (across a fairly busy road) where people fish, sun, boat and picnic. There is also a picnic area for day visitors.

We did stay here, but our friends did and loved it. Only down fall was, no pool for the kids. But overall it's a nice and clean park.

A nice clean park that allows a wonderful view of the St Clair River. Freighter watching and fishing both available. Close enough but far enough from metro Detroit area.

We stayed at this park September 2013. We were park of a larger group of probably 50 trailers for a rally. It was the perfect setting for our group. I loved the riverfront sites and watching the boats. The washrooms were always clean and the showers hot and free. Staff very friendly. The little town of Algonac is very quaint and has a lovely boardwalk along the river. The sites are open, with little shade but that was perfect for our group. If you like more trees there is a section at the back of the park more suitable for those tastes. We will be returning in September 2014 with our group again.

We've stayed at this campground several times. Every spot we've had is large and the park is very clean. Not much shade but the breeze off the water makes it cooler.

Arrived early on Friday and was able to move my reserved site. In the riverfront sites, all are mostly grass and level. Expect full sun, however there are some with trees to get your afternoon shade. Watching the barges go by on the river is fabulous, especially at night with their lights on. Two restrooms, the newest I called the "Ritz of bathrooms." Very clean! No problem showering here! The other bathroom is older, but okay for the middle of the night run. Most the sites are large. As a tent camper, I noticed a lot of RV's. Bring in wood, none available in the park. $10 seems to be the going rate in the area. Small beach area across the street from campground. Parents with young children, pick the sites that back into the play ground. Wheel sites are small, nice pads, but a lot of mosquitoes. Expect to hear the shotguns going off during the day. No camp store in park.

I've been coming to Algonac state Park since I was 3 years old, and that was some time ago. This year was the first year that I brought my family here in our new travel trailer. I love camping here because it's so relaxing and I love watching the freighters go up and down the river. A big plus for me is the Skeet range located in the back of the park. I love to shoot clay pigeons. My son enjoyed fishing in the St. Clair river and he loved having a camp fire at night. He cried when we had to leave on Sunday and told me that he wanted to stay there forever. Being that there is no water hook ups my wife and I used the bath house. I'm not really a big fan of the bath houses, but these were clean and with the little ones waking us up at the crack of dawn I was able to take a nice long HOT shower. Every time I've been here I've had a great experience. People are always nice and there are always a lot of kids for my kids to play with. If you're looking for a place to relax and get away from every day life, then Algonac is the place to go.

We spent a 4 day weekend at this state park last fall. It was very quiet, until we heard the gun blasts! WE did not know there was a gun range in the park--which is a nice feature, but it is too bad they could not locate farther from the campground. The noise can really interfere with your enjoyment unless you learn to tune it out. There are sites across the street from the river, so wonderful freighter viewing! However, even if you are several streets back, you can still see and experience all the boating you want. Sites are large, clean and grassy. The sites in the back of the campground, past the gun and archery ranges, are shadier, with a mix of grass, dirt and a few with gravel. Bathrooms are decent. There is a large day use area with picnic shelters, tables and grills. There was a net set up for volleyball. There is no beach, but you can fish in the river from a small parking lot across the street. I did not like the fact other than the young college girl sitting in the registration office, we saw NOT one other park employee the entire weekend! Obviously someone cleaned the bathrooms, but never a park ranger walking thru the park!Recommend for freighter watching, archery and gun enthusiasts.
