The historical facts and history, make for a interesting visit. Pat McKay has taken the time to research some of them in depth and has very interesting talks and slideshows.

The museum is doing fabulous things to preserve history all while making it fun for families and kids. They have events all year long from Quilting to Gardening and more. Great local historical and wedding venue.

The Van Hoosen Farm was the site of the 2014 SPOOM conference. The staff did a great job in organization and implementing the conference. The facilities were superb!! Our evening activities were held in the barn - what a great place for dinner, speakers, etc. If you weren't there, you missed something special. Thanks Debbie

My sister, history buff from Virginia, thought it was excellent. As do I, and adore children's garden!

This special museum features the history of the area but specifically concentrates on a farm which was in the same family from the founding of the local village in 1826 until the death of the last owner in the 1950's. It is also the story of some very strong women - grandmother, aunt and mother, and daughter who keep the farm operational for over 100 years. There are no animals here although the site was a dairy farm for its last 40 years. The cows, however, do figure importantly in the history. Special weekends are a treat - the Stonewall Pumpkin Festival the first Saturday in October is wonderful as are the July Wednesday afternoons with special events for children.

Christmas decorations are up now and the farm looks very festive. Outdoor visits are free - a small fee to see inside the farmhouse and the dairy barn. Check the farm website - they will soon be having an "Old Fashioned Christmas" event. Spring, summer, fall - bring your whole family. Have a picnic next to the Paint Creek River on this historical farm. The Children's Garden has old fashioned games like checkers and stilts, a maze, a swinging gate, a working water pump and much more. In addition there's a pizza garden, scent gardens, tasting gardens, ABC garden and, of course, a veggie garden. And there's no better place for family pictures in front of the gazebo. Love it, love it, love it.

we were getting a photo shoot with portrait scenes company out of sterling heights, mi and the location we chose was van hoosen farms in rochester hills, mi off of 25 mile road (runyon road) west of dequindre road. i have passed it a dozen times, never drove in, but am glad we did our family photos there. it is very well maintained, a park type atmosphere, you can relax by the river, and/or the babbling brook, many areas to walk to, historic homes and barns, lovely flowers and ferns and flaura and fauna. very relaxing place. you gotta check it out. also our family photos with portrait scenes company out of sterling heights, mi turned out fantastic with excellent backdrops do to van hoosen farms!
