We bought our skis here last November. The staff was amazingly helpful. We were finally back up last weekend to ski. They have a series of trails/loops, totaling around 9 miles (we skied them all). The conditions were a bit icy, but the trails were groomed for both classic and skating options. The store has a restaurant of sorts, with basic fair, but the food tasted great after about 7 miles of skiing. I've been on better trails, including in Cable Wisconsin, but still these were fun. The trails were generally not that challenging, but still quite enjoyable. They would be even better with some fresh snow.

If you are a cross country skier or thinking about picking up the sport, start here! The staff is knowledgeable & helpful and will make sure you are in the proper gear. If you can't make it in, call them, tell them what you're looking for and they will ship. I have purchased skis both ways and I haven't been let down. The clothing lines are also great and the staff really knows their stuff. Love that it is family owned.

Step inside Bob and Lynne Frye's place and you feel like you're part of a ski club. A huge assortment of clothing is what you see first, but early in the season check in the Stone Turtle Lodge portion to see great deals on closeouts. Once the season kicks in, take your skis off to cross the road and hop on CCSkiHQ's great network of ski trails, both traditional striding and skating. Come back and warm up by the fire with a panini (our favorite is a tuna with jalapeños) or cup of chili. Free beginner lessons are available--check with them for days--as well as rental skis and demos if you're in the market for a new pair. The Fryes know their stuff when it comes to recommending a ski for your abilities.

Very experienced and knowledgeable staff. Owners have been doing this longer than Bob wants me to mention. Many nice groomed trails for a small donation. Lessons and honest equipment discussions. Rentals too!

Hard to beat a lodge with a nice fire and x-country skiing through the woods. The trails could be more challenging but nice ambience for a weekend and very well maintained. Paella back in the lodge cooked over the fire was fantastic! Shop has excellent prices for skis and accessories.

This is just an excellent establishment. My wife and I have tried several cross country trails in Michigan and by far this is our favorite. There are flat trails for beginners and hilly trails for those wishing a little more challenge. The shops are full of gear at good prices and the staff are very knowledgeable of the sport. The trails loop through undeveloped wooded property of pines and hardwoods. This is a great ski vacation destination.
