Even though the attractions were closed when we arrived, it was still very cool to walk to Lake Superior and see the Buick sized shards of ice, and the frozen beach.

Having heard and read so many stories about ships and shipwrecks on the great lakes made this an emotional trip for me. There is a feeling you get that cannot be described when you are on the beach looking at Whitefish bay and Lake Superior. The museum and lighthouse were fantastic. This history lesson was priceless. If you understand or want to learn the history and importance of the greats lakes and the ships/men that sailed them you must visit Whitefish point.

It was a pleasure to come visit this landmark. Looking into Canada and looking through the restored home was a memorable experience. Don't forget to come up here if you're visiting Paradise.

It is very interesting, but if you have children under the age of 10, they are not allowed up in the lighthouse tower. Wish we had know that before buying our tickets. The museum is neat if you are into shipwrecks.

Over the years, we have visited Whitefish Point Light a number of times but my favorite visit included an overnight stay in the Crews Quarters (seasonal lodging). The Crews Quarters is an on-site two story square white building with five bedrooms - four upstairs and one on the main floor. We stayed in the Assistant Chief Room with a view of Lake Superior from one window and a view of the Whitefish Point Light from the second window. The next day, we climbed the 56 steps to the top of the light tower and walked outside on the widow’s walk taking pictures of the Lake Superior scenery from our 80 foot high perch. Take the time to walk through the Maritime Museum. It has a huge Fourth Order Fresnel Lens taken from Michigan's White Shoal Lighthouse. A number of exhibits involve the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald but it also features several other ship wrecks.

We recently took a trip to the UP in Michigan. I was planning on driving up to Paradise and then head west to Munising and the Pictured Rocks area. I decided I would drive the 11 extra miles north of Paradise and check out the lighthouse and the area. I am so glad we made this stop. The Shipwreck Museum is small but wonderful. The displays and artifacts of area ship wrecks were fascinating. The house that usually had a movie about Whitefish Point was closed for renovations but the lightkeepers house was open. That home was a treasure to tour. I've been in many lighthouse keepers home but this was really nice and so beautifully furnished with pieces from that time period. I did not go up in the lighthouse but I'm sure that would have been an extra treat. I probably should have done that too. There was a Fall Race going on the day we where there so it was busy but we still enjoyed this stop on our trip. Take the time to go North out of Paradise to see Whitefish Point.

This lighthouse is open to the public and you can climb to the top. The museum is very good and the location on Lake Superior is wonderful for rock hunting, walking and enjoying the waves.

Great combination of lighthouse, boathouse, Shipwreck Museum. A variety of exhibits chronicling the history of the sites and the shipwrecks that have occurred in the area. Reasonably priced - about $13 a person for the grounds - $4 more to go to top of lighthouse. We passed on the latter - but going through the lighthouse and museum was well worth the cost. Materials posted that give you the history / one fascinating discovery for me was the Lighthouse was targeted by spies during WW2 and had one of the people staying with the Keeper arrested on site!

Whitefish Point Lighthouse Station is a combination of buildings---one of which is the lighthouse. There is a museum with items from the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, a gift shop building, and several work buildings, and the fog horn building that make up this attraction. All the buildings are white with red roofs which really stand out in the sun. The area is very clean and well cared for. There are also public restrooms. The overlook and view of Lake Superior was, well……..superior!

Whitefish point lighthouse museum was great we enjoy the exhibits a lot and seeing the Edmund Fitzgerald bell the wax figures in the lighthouse home looks so real it startled my sisters Lake Superior was so beautiful that day with the sun shining on it it is definitely a stop if you are close by it I know will be there again

It was nice to walk around. The shop they have is quite overpriced. The lighthouse and such had an admission fee that was also overpriced. We decided to just walk around a bit and spent most of our time on the beach. We loaded up on stones to take home with us.

Loved this lighthouse and the access to the Lake Superior Beach. I took many pictures of the lighthouse and various artifacts. Must also see the Shipwreck Museum which is here.

The Great Lakes come alive with this historic site and excellent museum and lighthouse. So many ships have passed this point and a number of them tragically never made it to their destinations before being shipwrecked. You can still see the iron boats passing this point on their way to and from the Soo Locks. Well worth the trip and the price of admission. An interesting piece of trivia the tour guide ponted out is that the stairs in this lighthouse go up in a counter clockwise manner. Every other lighthouse he's familiar with (and i've seen as well), have the stairs go up in a clockwise manner. He had no explanation for it either. Definitely put this on your "to do" list.

Wonderful place and the shipwreck museum if well worth the stop. great gift shop with the best prices around. Only 10 miles from Paradise. Beautiful views.

The lighthouse can be self toured as part of the shipwreck museum, except for climbing the tower, which is an extra fee. It would be interesting to someone who has never been in a lighthouse and learned about what kind of lifestyle it was. I was a little annoyed by the museum employee who talked far too much even though no one asked her any questions. This was also a problem in another of the buildings on the grounds--this kind of info should only be provided on an official tour or if a customer asks questions.
