Very interesting although a little difficult to find, had to ask a local person where it was because it is not sign posted in advance

This is a well preserved historic home that is very special to the local community. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend that you go. It's also FREE! It's a neat little place and doesn't take that long and even if the visitor center is closed you can still wander around the homestead which is kept up nicely.

We enjoyed everything about our trip. Had a great tour of Harry S. Truman's birthplace. The guide was seem to know about his life for the short time he lived in Lamar.

We visited after hours so we were unable to go inside the house. The kids enjoyed looking through the windows and reading about the place.

This is a charming little house and so small for the family who lived there. You are able to walk through the whole home including the upstairs. The stairs are steep and very narrow. And this is a free attraction.

One day my boyfriend and I got in the car and took off. We ended up here. I had been by Lamar several times, but never stopped to see the Truman home. This is one of the more humble and simple historic places I have stopped in, but it is really worth the experience. The tour guide showed us the house and spoke of the Truman baby that passed away. She said the baby was buried in a local cemetery. On the drive out of Lamar we saw a cemetery and I said let's stop. Go figure we were able to find the Baby Truman tombstone right away. That was really special and tied the trip in all together. The grounds of the home are very, very well kept up. The operation is small, but is very much something that needs to be maintained as this is our history. Will stop again some time.

While this site is not any where as impressive as the Truman sites in Independence, Missouri, it is worth a stop just to see the modest home and humble beginnings of this President. Located just a short distance off the Interstate and well marked, the 20' x28' two story wood framed home which cost only $685 when built sits in a quiet neighbor of similar homes close to the railroad tracks. What impressed me is how much it looks like it must have back in 1884 when Truman was born. The historic site blends in with the surroundings with the landscaping similar to what it would have been back then and many of the furnishings are originals. There is a museum on the lower side of the street and the home sits directly across the street on the upper side. There is a small, unimpressive picnic area next to the railroad tracks and ample parking in the area. The home is seen only with a tour guide and only open Wed. through Sat. In Winter. The entire site is free, and even when the home and museum are not open, you can still see the exterior of the home and walk the grounds. Tour guides provide lots of information. The second story is not wheelchair accessible.

The tour was brief and informative, but focused mostly on Truman's life beyond Lamar. I wish the tour guide had provided more info about his father's job in town, which would have made the experience better. Overall, worth the visit and enjoyable to see.The site doesn't offer much if you have kids, but for those into presidential history it's worthwhile.

Really looked forward to our visit bit could find no hours of operation. Drove way out of our way and wouldn't you know it was closed. Several other folks had the same experience as there were several folks milling around the grounds. At least we could look in the windows for a glimpse of the interior.

This historical site really takes you back in time! They have done a great job recreating history with antiques. They provide you with a nice tour that elaborates on his life while he was there. Great for pictures and a great little location. I would have liked to have his lot of land. Probably need about 30 mins to relax and take your time.

A must stop. Friendly people in a very friendly town. Well work spending a bit of time. Nearby is a quaint county-seat square with speciality shops and a town that shows pride in itself.
