I had the impression from their website that the site was above average and my trip was rewarded with a very pleasant visit. An impressive gallery on local history puts the location at the top for a county museum. Few places have the quality of installation as that found in Andrew County. It is a great site to include if you are visiting the St. Joseph area. High marks for a very courteous staff, being able to press a button in an exhibit and having it work, clean, etc. And if you had relatives in the county in the past, they have a very substantial archives of local history and genealogical resources.

I've visited this museum twice with several years intervening between visits. I couldn't believe the difference in the place and how improved it has become! Excellent displays on Andrew County and Savannah. The staff was courteous and even volunteered a wheelchair for my brother so I could push him and we could take our time reading all of the information. Small, nice gift area too. Accessible. Multitudes of information. Savannah is a really nice community with shopping around the square and some acceptable restaurants. A nice place to visit. There wasn't a correct "label" for the "sort of visit" (couples, young children, etc.) so I clicked on "friends" even though it was my elderly brother and myself.

Most county historical museums are like someone's junky attic. This one tells a story like a prize-winning documentary. It's the story of the county's people through time. By tying local families to big historical and technological changes, it both celebrates the locals (I am sure they love that!) but also brings abstract history alive with photos, artifacts, and stories. Big kudos for design, pace, and staging of exhibits, and for weaving in videos and hands-on fun stuff for the younger visitors. In a backwoods burg with disappointing food, this may be the crown jewel.

I recently went here to evaluate an exhibit for a college course that I am taking in Maryville, Missouri. My first impression of the town is small hamlet that has been set back by economics and time, but the museum was outstanding. Compared to other small town historical societies that I have been to and researched, Andrew County is amazing and very well thought out.The admission price is negligible and the volunteer staff are quite friendly and fun to talk to. The museum contains a wide variety of media with plenty of well thought out interactive pieces to capture attention. The topics generally revolve around small town life and how a small town fits into the large span of the world. There is the significance of farming, community, and how the community responds to wars. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours strolling through the galleries. You will not regret stopping here, fun for all ages.

This little museum packs a lot of punch. Actually, you could spend several hours there and enjoy it all. The historical displays were typical of a museum of a small city and they charge almost nothing for admission. Not hard to find if you just look under the water tower.

While visiting in the Mid-West, I had the occasion to visit Savannah, Missouri, and was taken to see this marvelous museum and to learn about the local history of Andrew County, and most specifically about the farmers and ranchers who settled and prospered in the 1800 and 1900's.Many of the founding fathers families still live in the area. This museum is top notch, and so very professionally presented. The curator staff is extremely knowledgeable. They also have a very good genealogy Department. Allow at least one hour to tour the museum.Savannah is just north of St. Joseph, Missouri, the home of the Pony Express, and just 45 minutes down I-29 to Kansas City.

While visiting relatives in Savannah, they took my husband and I to the museum. I was really impressed with this museum! The wide variety of displays were very professionally done. The stories about families past and present from the area gave the exhibits a very personal feel. There was a very good mix of types of displays: audio, interactive, static, and dynamic. The museum does an excellent job telling the history of the area with the emphasis on how farming was been done in the area and changed over the years. My cousin explained the extent to which research was done to make sure all exhibits were true and correct. I really enjoyed my visit to the museum and was glad we were able to spend several hours there!

This was my first visit to the museum, and I found the interesting short introduction video, activated by the opening front door, to be informative and made me eager to see the exhibits. The displays were unique, professionally done and included a great mix of static, audio and interactive features. A great variety of topics was depicted over time--from early days to more current times. It was fun seeing information about families I know or knew.Well worth the time to go; will definitely be taking the family to see this museum.

After hearing about the renovation and new displays, my wife and I had the opportunity to revisit the Andrew County Musuem. It had been at least 15 years since we had been there. We were totally amazed by the new layout and the professional quality of the exhibits. The museum does an excellent job of telling the story of the history of Andrew County and the various towns within the county. What makes it unique is that it is told from the prospective of local citizens whose ancestors were responsible for much of the settlement of the county. Many small museums we visit have various historical artifacts to view but there is no real organization to how they are displayed. At the Andrew County Musuem, you move along a time-line of the development and growth of the county and the different things that contributed to that growth and development. We had a great tour provided by volunteers Harold and Carole Johnson. Our time limits allowed us to only scratch the surface. We are looking forward to returning soon when we can spend several hours exploring. We would highly recommend this venue not only to former citizens of Andrew County but to anyone that enjoys recalling "the good old days."

It was alright. I thought the paper was challenging and kind of hard. There was a lot of good helpful people there helping us out with our questions that we needed to ask.

I thought the artifacts were displayed well and you could tell a lot of time was put into making the museum. I don't think the questions were as good as they could have been. They didn't meet up with the standards of the artifacts. There was a lot of reading that had to be done to figure out what you were looking at, so after a while it was hard to keep your concentration. But I thank the people that put this together!
