Another of my late, late review! We thought we would give Tupelo a miss after spending a day in Graceland. We collected the car and left Memphis after breakfast. The sat nav was set for Nashville. We were already an hour away from Memphis and I had the sudden desire to see Tupelo. My husband turned the car around and thank goodness for the sat nav, there were no maps involved so no time was wasted. Thank goodness hubby was obliging!Elvis's birthplace is not on the same scale as Graceland. It was much less busy. There is a gift shop, exhibition and a cinema playing a part of Elvis's life story re-enacted by actors. The house built by Vernon Presley, where Elvis was born is very small. The staff in the house was very informative and helpful. Elvis and his family left Tupelo for Memphis at the age of 13.The church attended by Elvis was relocated and placed at the birthplace. The grounds are well maintained. There is a bronze statue of Elvis as a child in the grounds and a fountain. This Birthplace and museum is not managed by Graceland. Elvis was very much present during the visit. He was even visible in the bathrooms via the tv screens. The gift shop had Elvis's memorabilia. Again I declined as I thought the memories are far more precious than trinkets.Due to our detour, we arrived in Nashville later than planned, but I'm so glad we did as it was well worth the delay.

A beautiful tribute to Elvis' early years from birth to his family moving to Tennessee. An inspiring chapel and memories of his early beginnings as a gospel singer.

What an educational, interesting, and fantastic place to visit! My husband and I took the whole tour. We spent several hours there reading, and listening to all the stories. If you are in the area this is worth the trip. Not only will you learn about Elvis's early years, but also about the community at that time. This is a history buffs dream!

The museum sits in front of the house that Elvis was born in and back behind there is the church that Elvis attended as a child.( The church was moved there for the attraction) The grounds are very nice with stoned paths that follow around to entrance of museum with history of the famous everywhere. The cost to tour the house was $6.00 and the house was so small that I did not think it a value. The museum has a theatre that features a documentary and it was free. The movie is about 12-15 minutes long, and to me it was worth the time. I'm not a big Elvis fan, but I am glad I spent the time.

This was not the commercialized tourist trap that my husband expected it to be. There was a lot of information to read about Elvis's childhood. There was also a short free film to learn more. You can walk around the grounds and see his original house and church. My child was fascinated by the outhouse - he couldn't comprehend that people had to walk outside to use the bathroom. We didn't pay the extra money to go into the museum, church, or house. I did break down and bought a Elvis swinging hips wall clock.

Very nice short stop. Good to see such a small humble home knowing that Elvis was born there. It reminds one that with hard work and perseverance even the poorest of us can reach out for success. The small home was moving but not much else there to spend time on. Glad we made the drive while in Red Bay Alabama.

My husband and I were driving from Tulsa to Savannah and decided to stop in Tupelo for the night. We visited the Elvis Birthplace and Museum because...what else is there to do in Tupelo? The cost for admission to the museum, house and chapel was $36 for the two of us. The "tour" of the house was a woman sitting on a stool giving a very brief (about 5 minutes) overview of the home and how it came to be. We didn't tour the chapel because the next tour wasn't due to start for another 45 minutes and there just wasn't anything there to keep us entertained for that length of time. The museum took all of 15 minutes to walk through and we read every word we could in hopes of prolonging the "experience". My advice? Stop by and walk around the grounds and peruse the gift shop. Don't pay for admission but perhaps leave a small donation.Definitely not worth $36.

I grew up in this area so this has been a wonderful part of my childhood. Visiting here is a must for any true Elvis Presley fan . While the house itself is really not much to look at it proves that anyone from any beginning can make something of themselves.

Gosh, Elvis was born in a very small house. Worth a stop if you're passing through Tupelo. Only real Elvis fanatics will make it along stop, but worth seeing, just for the history.

I'm conflicted about writing about the Elvis Presley Birthplace & Museum for two reasons: I live near and work in Tupelo, but I've never been an Elvis fan.Not that I don't appreciate his talent or his contributions to music as well as his place of birth.I've been in the Tupelo area for more than 10 years and it's a good place to live and to raise a kid. As far as attractions go, the birthplace is the most-visited tourist destination. But up until earlier this year, I had never been inside the EPBM.The grounds are nice, the museum and displays are nice and the people are great. An expansion to the place has added a lot of great features. But unless you're a die-hard Elvis fan, you probably won't get too much about it. At least, i didn't, but that's just me. You can check out the website for more info about the birthplace and museum.

I've never felt closer to the King! Excellent facilities and an amazing exposure to the beginning of Elvis!

We had been driving all day from Knoxville and didn't arrive until 4:45pm unfortunately. We walked into the main building and were not even acknowledged by the woman working at the cash. We used the restroom and looked around a bit then got the attention of someone else and asked about tickets to see Elvis Presley's house and were told that it was too late as they were closing at 5pm. They couldn't have mentioned that when we came in? We bought a couple of souvenirs and went outside, and there was a woman still giving a tour in the Elvis house so I just opened the door and asked if we could have a look. We would have gladly paid for the tour even if it was only for 10 minutes but instead were treated to the opposite of southern hospitality, and saw the house interior, however briefly, for free when we would have rather paid. We looked around for a while and the women who were working inside were chatting outside at 5:20 so clearly they weren't in any big rush to leave. Big disappointment, they must know that people travel a long way to visit here, it wouldn't have killed them to stay open 10 or 15 minutes longer to accommodate people who drove 1000 miles to get there. Still recommended as a visit for Elvis fans, seeing the little house is very cool but other than that there is not too much else there, a rebuilt church and a bunch of plaques and a fountain. Our experience would have been very different if we were greeted and treated like welcome guests instead of a nuisance but what can you do. I guess when you work at a place like that you become numb to the significance of it and how far some people come to see it.
