You can smell the past as you walk through the doors. You stand on the steps along with Presidents. Walk through the gardens that the first ladies tended. You actually step into the past as you walk through the old court house and see all the items in the museum. It is must do if you love History

Maybe I put the review for this on the Cairo. Whatever, go to it. It filled in all the blanks about life during this time period, Civil War, in Vicksburg. We truly enjoyed it.

There are several different rooms of artifacts , most of which are clearly marked. I especially enjoyed the room of Pioneer artifacts.

The Old Courthouse is a beautiful building. It is stuffed to the gills with anything anyone has ever donated regarding Vicksburg's history. The highlight is the courtroom itself along with the room dedicated to Jefferson Davis. I am not sure the $5 admission is worth it. A good curator could pare down the items and make this a truly remarkable museum. Several rooms felt as if there was no theme, just lots of old stuff, some of it in not very good condition. If you have extra time, this is a possible way to finish up the day, but I think there are other places more worthy to visit.

If you are in Vicksburg I would recommend you take time and visit the old courthouse. There are a lot of history here. The court house holds a lot of old artifacts from the civil war era

Very nice museum dedicated to the town and the Vicksburg battle. Two full floors with Stair chair for up stairs access for handicap. Contains many unusual artifacts, that other museum do not have.

The old courthouse pre-dates the Civil War. It was a target for Union gunners. The museum contains a Confederate flag that was never surrendered, the tie Jeff Davis wore when he was sworn in as the Confederate President in Montgomery, Al. There are also interesting pieces of art, furniture and a Teddy Bear given to a Vicksburg child by President Teddy Roosevelt when he spoke at the courthouse.

While not huge, this museum is well worth a visit. We enjoyed seeing the beautiful models of the ships that it exhibits. Of course the museum concentrates on the Civil War. They offer a movie explaining the war. It's an old movie, and is virtually the same facts that the new movie shows at the Vicksburg Military Park, but it's not what we went there to see anyway. The gentleman working at the museum is very friendly and willing to answer any questions you have. If you see the ad mentioning the approx. 100 old cars, don't expect real cars like we did. The cars are all small cars held in a case. But it was fun to see them anyway. Parking is free and right across the parking lot of the museum. The museum covers two floors and we were there about 90 minutes.

I had promised to bring an authentic Civil War bullet back for a friend, and one of the staff at Vicksburg National Park told me I would find them at the gift shop in the Old Court House Museum. I found the bullet, but we also found much more in this very interesting museum. They have a huge collection of Civil War memorabilia and a particularly interesting room about Jefferson Davis and his wife. Jefferson was a local though he did not return after the Civil War. They also had a very well preserved Court Room from the mid- 1800's that my husband, a retired lawyer, found particularly interesting. This museum delivered much more than I was expecting and I would highly recommend you spend an hour or two here.

This wonderful museum is located in Vicksburg's Old Courthouse which was built in 1858 and has been a museum operated by the Vicksburg and Warren County Historical Society since 1948.There are so many wonderful artifacts housed in this museum that I really don't know where to begin. There is a Confederate flag that was never surrendered to the Union, the tie that Jefferson Davis, a local Vicksburg planter, wore at his inauguration as the President of the Confederate States of America (CSA), and an original teddy bear that was given to a local Vicksburg child by President Theodore Roosevelt as well as so very many other artifacts are housed in this museum.I also found the Courthouse to be quite interesting. It dates back to 1858 and stands on one of the highest hills in Vicksburg. The Courtroom which is located upstairs features an ornate cast iron judge's dias and railing, and an iron stairway connects the first and second floors. I also want to mention that we were very fortunate indeed to meet a local Vicksburg historian, Gordon Cotton, who warmly welcomed us to the museum. He is so very knowledgeable about the city's history that we couldn't resist asking him questions! The Old Court House Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 - 4:30 pm and Sunday from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. It is open until 5 pm during Daylight Savings Time. Admission is charged but I believe that a Senior discount is available. They also have a gift shop where there is a nice selection of gifts, including authentic Civil War Relics.

Large selection of documents, firearms, clothing, uniforms, bicycles, China, crystal, etc. You are assured to find several interesting things. You can also appreciate the beautiful stairs, doors and windows in that stately, dignified, gorgeous old structure.

Drove to see the Riverfront Murals and walked to view them. Little did we know that the Old Depot Museum was closing. We did walk around it and across the railroad tracks and saw the historical area. Next time, we'll be sure we see the museum first and then gaze at the murals.

Went here for a 1/2 hour visit after spending all day at the Military Park. The court house has historical significance, e.g. Grant reviewing his victorious troops but overall it's a dismal, musty old place with an outdated way of exhibit presentation and no multi media enhancements whatsoever. There's a $5 admission fee, which frankly isn't worth it. There's some interesting things to see and ponder and the staff was quite friendly but overall it's a meh-type experience.

Its even better when local historian Gordon Cotton is there when he can tell you any and everything you ever wanted to know about the area, the Civil War and Vicksburg in particular! Well worth the experience. The old courthouse is really cool to view as well.

My friend and I spent several hours in this place absorbing all the information contained in the displays . The old courtroom made me imagine how it would have been ages ago when it was new. This is not a museum you can hurry through! We really enjoyed this one!
