My wife and I booked a couples massage at Spa of Essex. The facility is modern and clean, with a very friendly staff. The lounge where we waited for our masseuses included reclining chairs, which were very comfortable. They have new sauna and steam rooms, which I took advantage of. When we were led to the massage room, the atmosphere throughout the space we walked through was very relaxing. The room was perfect, and our massages were among the best we'd enjoyed anywhere. Afterwards, the quiet lounge we were taken to was peaceful and a good space to wait until we were ready to go back into the world again. Definitely a worthwhile stop on our trip!

I've been going to the spa since it opened eight years ago. The atmosphere is calming, the staff is welcoming, the treatments are wonderful. When you're finish your treatments, there is this great "relaxation room", where you can sink down in large cozy chaises and spend some unhurried "me" time.

I have been going to this spa for over a year now and will continue to do so. I have loved every minute of every experience here. From entering the door to leaving it. The staff is very friendly and cater to your needs. Every treatment I have had has been pleasant one. From the massages to facials I have never had one reason to complain. It is a very clean facility as well. The relaxation room is one of my favorites. I have fallen asleep in between treatments a few times in here. I want the couches in my house! I also love that the staff ask if I would like any coffee, tea or snacks because I can spend hours here and it's no fun getting a massage with a growling belly. I am also greeted with water every time my treatments are done. Very important to keep hydrated. I recommend this spa to anyone in CT looking for a great spa! I will continue to be a faithful costumer here and hope you will too.

One of my favorite places to go and get a relaxing pedicure. I got the monthly special Spa Pedicure and was rewarded with a cooling and festive scent of Peppermint. Really happy to have a good soak, massage and mask on my weary toes - especially this time of year. I got a sparkling red toenail polish and am ready to face the holidays in style. Thanks, DeAnne!

I've visited the Spa of Essex several times, and I've never been disappointed - until my latest visit last weekend. I had a stomach bug, and I thought I was over it, but I became sick during my massage. The staff IMMEDIATELY assumed I was pregnant, discontinued my massage, charged me full price, and forced me to sign a disclaimer (which I had ALREADY signed YEARS ago) about certain procedures being contraindicated during pregnancy (I'm sterile).I won't be back.

I received a gift card so I tried the Spa of Essex. By outward appearances, it is quite lovely. On the plus side, the treatment areas were spotless. However, I had a spa pedicure and gel manicure. I'd hate to see what a basic pedicure was because this spa pedicure was bare bones for $75. No massage, no lotion, no callous treatment , no paraffin. The shellac gel chipped within 2 days. I've had this done many times. It ALWAYS lasts at least 2 weeks. When it starts to grow out and look sloppy I can't get the polish off. This was coming off in sheets. They were good about offering to fix it but couldn't get me in for 4 days. By then, a second finger chipped- fine, no charge. The technician assured me if there was any further problem to call them. I got home and within an hour the other hand was peeling. They scheduled me for the next morning but then an hour before the appt. called to say I'd be charged full price to remove the gel and reapply it. No thank you. $ 57 for a manicure that lasts 2 days and $75 for a so- called spa pedicure (that does look great still and it is regular polish) plus $30 tip. I cannot afford to be ripped off like this.

Loud inattentive service. Warm, old water in relaxation room. Reluctant to correct a terrible manicure.

If you need/ want a good facial and don't want to go far, this is a good bet. Clean, lovely facilities. Soundproofing is a problem, though. They have a lot of services here, and a knowledgeable staff.

This spa offers a variety of wonderful services. I have been many times and love the serenity one feels the minute you enter the spa. The relaxation rooms both before and after offer an added bonus to superior staff services. I highly recommend this spa.

A peaceful day in a beautiful atmosphere. The glorious visit started with a warm massage table and a cozy comforter. I would have been happy to just lie nestled between the warmth and wieght but then the 90 massage corrected the pain and discomfort of weeks of traveling. I have had many massges but this was truly theraputic. After the massage I was led to the "recovery" room with the most inviting chair I have ever seen. Covered by a blanket in a warm, dark, quiet room, I was tempted to stay for the rest of the night. Definately a beautiful experience in a cozy town.

The Spa at Essex is consistently wonderful -- I almost don't want to write the review because if too many ppl know about it then you really won't be able to get an appt.In all seriousness, you've not met a better staff, a wide array of affordable services and a nice quiet place to relax. Only issue: The quiet room is lovely (when it's quiet)...but sometimes, you can get clients who use it as an "outdoor cafe" complete with not so quiet conversations. (This happened once in the many times I've been there.)Otherwise, I'd recommend it to everyone -- and after your day at the spa, hang out in the local town of Essex...it's so pleasant and right by the river.

The staff at the spa have always been extremely friendly and welcoming. I have only visited a few times, but I am waiting for a break in my busy schedule to go back! I have tried multiple massages all with different individuals and they have been fantastic. I feel my back tightening now, must be time to book another appointment!

I will definitely go again, and hopefully soon. It is very modern, extremely well thought out building in wonderful grounds. The staff and unusually helpful and friendly. The two treatments I had were very well done. My husband was delighted with the high standard of the food (and that is extremely unusual, to say the least). I can't praise enough! It was very well decked out with all the modern equipment and everything was very clean.

I visited the Spa of Essex with my sweetheart as a treat for a belated Valentine's Day. In addition to having a tranquil atmosphere, it is decorated in a chic and modern fashion. The colors on the walls are nice, great comfy furniture, and lavishly accomodated bathrooms and massage rooms. It kind of made me feel like I was hanging out at my swanky new england mansion in my bathrobe. We had an appointment for a couples massage. I'm not a spa kind of guy so the massage part was okay. The employees were very nice to us...almost too nice. The massage tables were comfy and heated. Afterwards, we got to hang out in the relaxation room in their oversized love seats while eating chocolates and drinking champagne. Lastly, I showered off in the bathroom and indulged in a self-administered shave at my leisure. I've never been to a spa before but, I have to say that this one was top notch. My girlfriend admitted that it was the nicest spa she had ever been to. I'm certain that the average spa goer would enjoy a visit to the Spa of Essex.
