I have been to many plays in many venues. This is the first time I had the pleasure of visiting the Shubert theater (a little piece of American history). The venue is pleasant with only a few undesirable seats (stay away from outside orchestra seats). Went with a friend to see Seen Change, it was a bit confusing at first and took me abut 1/4 of the way into the show to understand where the show was going. Other than the show being a little disappointing I will definitely visit this theater again for future shows. The seat space is far more comfortable than some theaters in NYC.

We Usually make it to the Shubert a few times a year. This time to see "A christmas Carol" Have seen a few times and they changed it up a little bit. good Job ! Shubert new owners added new (much needed) bathrooms. Now on every level. Pleasant Suprise ! If you live in new Haven area and havn't been give it a try.Great Theater, Like going to the city with out the travel or hastle. Ground parking much quicker than garage.

As with many older theaters, there isn't always a lot of leg room in the seats. But there isn't a bad seat in the house when viewing shows and every level has a good view. I actually like the mezzanine best.

What a great theater with so much character. I would recommend sitting by the aisle or balcony so you will have more leg room. But over all a great location to get a drink or a meal before or after the show.

I arrived just on time for a Bulldog Days event, so the only seating left was in the balcony. I felt like I had to climb 10 flights of stairs to get there, and it was a steep hike. Next time I will get here early to get floor seating. Hard to move around during reception for parents after the event. Poor flow between bar and food made it difficult to mingle.

The venue is awesome, the show was great! The cast played on stage be for the actual performance and the audience was permitted on stage while they sang and danced.what a great time and what a great show.I cant wait to go back!

Visited the Shubert for the opening night of Once. The theater is absolutely stunning on the inside. The seats are very comfortable which is pretty important for a 2.5 hour show. The staff are friendly and helpful. They all seemed genuinely happy to help or offer assistance. The show space was really nice as well. We were seated towards the front and it felt as if we were sucked into the production.

The ambience adds to any performance; very classy and elegant. Have seen countless musicals and other performances here; always great, never disapponted. Have been in the "cheap seats" and orchestra center: enjoyed it all. Found great gifts in the store: easy shopping when we lived in the area. Would recommend a trip from anywhere to visit.

while I love a trip to NYC- the productions I see at the Shubert in New Haven are actually just as good time after time. This year I saw Christmas Carole and it was well done, sets costumes and performance very good. Then we saw the Nutcracker- loved it ! I've seen several musical performances and a few talk show productions - each time the sound was excellent. were lucky to have such a great venue in our back yards

If you haven't seen Blue Man Group, it is a must see. Show was very audience interactive. When the lights came on I thought it was intermission, but was I surprised that almost 2 hours went by! Hint, hint! Don 't sit in the first 5 rows or so because you'll be draped on plastic!

this is a old theater tucked right into downtown new haven, but parking was right next door and reasonable. our seats were high up in the balcony which is very steep but your view is good.there are alot of steps to climb but there is a elavator. the charm of a century old theater was great.we saw the blue man group, which was fantastic by the way, but being high up in the balconey we did miss some of the interaction with the crowd below.they did have big screens to show you what we could not see.overall experiance was wonderful.

What a fantastic show put on by the Blue Man Group. My wife and I took our 2 grandsons and it was non stop smiles, laughs and cheers. There antics were amazing to say the least and I'm sure our grandsons will remember this for some time. This is definitely a don't miss show.

What a great Theater. Went to see "A Christmas Carol" very good performance. Lots of variety all year long though. Easy to buy tickets on line or on the phone. Park in a street lot and avoid the rush out of the garage. Lots of places to eat withen 2 blocks. Enjoy !

My husband and I saw Chris Cornell last night at the Shubert Theatre and we had a great time! The theatre is pretty small, but it means you get a close seat no matter what. We were on the first floor of the theatre in row N. We had the last two seats closest to the wall. We had no problems seeing or hearing the performance. The people working at the theatre were very friendly. The smallness of the theatre made the performance more personal and we really enjoyed it. The bathrooms are in the basement and it seemed like that floor wasn't really heated, but you don't hang out down there so it didn't affect the experience. I would definitely go back to see another show here.

First time at the Shubert, very excited to see Chris Cornell performing an acoustic set. For those that aren't familiar, he's a singer that I'd put more in the hard rock category, but plays acoustic sets frequently - a totally different vibe from full out concert performances. Entering the lobby, I had a mixed feeling of...kind of, "Wow, this place was probably hot 50, 60 years ago, but it looks sort of dated." I wanted to like it more, but I couldn't warm up to it. Perhaps some of it had to do with them selling boxes of candy that looked like someone ran to Costco and grabbed a few boxes of this and that and put those few boxes in the large display cases for a quick buck ("You know, Fred, we should put something in these big display cases we got here. I got it - we'll sell candy to all the 40 year olds!"). Anyway, we had balcony seats, more toward the front of the balcony, so we had a nice view of the stage. Now I felt like this was a real old-time theater. The seats up high on the wings take you back 100 years, pretty cool. The stage was really small, which I thought would be great for a play (reading other reviews about plays here seemed to prove me wrong, though). There were several speakers and amps in the center of the stage, which made me think they better be some darn good acoustics here to carry that sound around this room. There's another large speaker setup near the center of the ceiling that hangs down, but again, it looked odd relative to the type of show this was. The opening act (I couldn't hear his name due to the muffled sound coming from the speakers) was not a good omen for what was to come. While he was a talented guitarist, his voice and acoustic guitar sounded flat and hollow - not "out of tune," just no juice. I dismissed it as an opening act and perhaps the full force of the audio setup was not going to on until Cornell took the stage. When he finally did, I was slightly frustrated with still-muffled microphone. Chris' voice alone could carry that venue, but I have to say, I never felt like the music was surrounding me. It was just coming to me from the front of me, and didn't carry over the balcony. Now, believe me, I know I'm lucky to be able to afford to go put a few dollars aside to go out to dinner and a show from time to time, but I have to say that I was disappointed that the venue was the cause of my displeasure with this performance that I was really looking forward to see. It seems that there are things they could do to improve the acoustics, such as adding a better quality sound system and the number and location of speakers around the balcony area. At this point, lacking anyone telling me that they've done some improvements int he aforementioned areas, I have to say that I would't go to another show there. This is frustrating, because New Haven is much closer and convenient for us than NYC or Foxwoods to see a show.
