the carousel and shop

My wife and sister-in-law travel to and ride on old carousels for a hobby, so we decided to try this one in Old Lyme. They said the carousel was excellent, with nicely carved animals and authentic music, plus it had the rings to grab as you rode around, which add to the fun. At $1.50 a ride it's a bargain!The Carousel shop next door had delicious ice cream, and sitting outside eating it and listening to the carousel's music made for a wonderful evening (the carousel is only open from 7-9PM each evening). Plus we walkd down to the beach for a short stroll too - very pleasant. All in all, worth a trip.

Don't go out of your way, but if you are desperate for a carousel ride I guess this may fill the bill. Nothing special. The kids enjoyed the ice cream. O

Who does not love the sounds and fun of a carousel. What fun my family has enjoyed for so many years. The owners have done a remarkable job maintaining and expanding this lovely attraction. Their ice cream shop is one of the best, service is always great as well. My heart broke when we saw the damages from Hurricane Sandy, but all has been repaired, thank you a million times over. The two gift shops have so many different and much needed items for beach days. We love coming here night after night and the pure joy on our little ones faces is priceless. The look on the adult faces watching their little ones is priceless as well. Come try to win the brass ring, even if you don't you all will still be a winner.

We have been enjoying ice cream and carousel rides at The Carousel Shop for years and have always had a wonderful time. The historic carousel (I think it's $2 per ride) is very fun for kids (of all ages) and affords riders a chance to grab the brass ring for a free ride. Friendly staffers make sure you're safe on the horses and answer any/all questions promptly and courteously. When you finish your ride, the ice cream shop is a wonderful addition to a fun night. Delicious hard and soft ice creams are available from energetic and friendly staff. A favorite of mine: Monster Mash-- vanilla ice cream loaded with M&Ms, malted milk balls, caramel swirl and more! We enjoy sitting on the benches outside the shop and watching the people go by. There is also a shop attached where you can buy anything from extra sunglasses to toys. All in all, It is the perfect end to a day at the beach.
