It was off season so it wasn't open. If you want to be able to go inside you would have to visit during the regular tourist season.

Didn't do the inside tour as I didn't have enough money to spare at the time and also have lunch or a snack somewhere. The lighthouse is just up the road a little from Du Bois beach and the houses around here are very beautiful, quaint and full of character.Next time I visit I'll take the tour.

Plan your visit to make sure you have the time to tour the Palmer House also located in Stonington because the ticket for the museum includes the house tour which doesn't start until 1 p.m. We weren't aware of this and hadn't allowed time to stay until the afternoon. The museum is small, but if you will take the time to read the placards accompanying the displays, you will learn a lot of the history of the area. There are some stairs just as you enter the building that lead to the top of the lighthouse. There is a straight ladder climb that might limit access for those with mobility concerns. Children would definitely need to be supervised

Great view from the top of the lighthouse. The museum itself is nothing exceptional but for the combined ticket price with the Palmer house it is certainly worth stopping by.

2 couples 65 years of age visited the lighthouse. The young man at the desk never offered any senior discount. He also had no knowledge of the dedication plaque outside. He also did not indicate the difficult straight ladder climb up to the outside if the lighthouse. All of this should have been offered in advance of purchase of the tickets which was $18.00 per couple. Perhaps when putting someone at the desk, give them at least these options. do not bother to go inside, it was not worth the money

This lighthouse is very picturesque and includes a great museum as well. It does cost $9 per adult, less for seniors, children and active military members. Luckily we visited on a Tuesday which is buy 1 get 1 so my girlfriend was free. Included in the admission is the tower climb. It is a short set of stairs and a small metal ladder to the top. Views are nice from inside the light chamber. There is not a working light anymore. For me this is a can't miss but I am a lighthouse enthusiast so others may find it boring. If nothing else, visit the light for a free picture and then stroll the town as it is as nice as nearby Mystic.

This is a beautiful old lighthouse. Exhibits are interesting, and the staff is very friendly. The small museum is interesting, and the tickets a good value since it is combined with the Palmer House.

A very unique and cozy museum. so lovely right on the water. The staff was helpful to answer questions that you might have. A walk up to the look out...

We recently stepped into yesteryear by way of the Old lighthouse museum. It is a small museum near DuBois beach. The admission price was $9 per person, but it also included a tour of the Captain Palmer house (you have to drive there to see it).You can climb up to the top of the lighthouse and get a good view of the water before heading over to the Palmer house for another lesson in American history.A nice way to spend a few hours near the water... you've GOT to see the houses of the residents at DuBois beach! Amazing!

Very small three rooms. You can climb to the top and look out at the top but it is not more than @ 20 feet up.

historical light house and museum nestled by a small town beach. DuBois Beach is across the street from it. Easy walk for shopping too.

The Old Lighthouse Museum is a great place to get a good look at history from many angles. I have been there several times of the years and never disappointed as I learn something new each time. Nice town to spend some time, get some history and enjoy the water.

Stonington ct. is a charming little town, & less touristy then Mystic, I was in Mystic for a few days & was told to check out Stonington, which is only about 5 Miles from down town Mystic, so i figured what the heck & went.To my pleasant surprise I found an old lighthouse that is now a museum, When traveling around I like going to light houses so it was a no brainier to me, so I went, of course I climbed to the top, for those of you that are not walkers or stair climbers not to worry its not a very tall light house, so climb up & have a look . . .Just check before you go as there is one day that its not open, the only bad thing I could think of is , , , I so wish I had blue sky's & better viability, as you can see from my pictures it was a pretty gray day.If you drive or walk past the lighthouse there are wonderful views (on a clear day) as there are also wonderful views if you climb up the light house :-)

We visit Stonington often and always want to go to the lighthouse but always run out of time. We made the time and it was well worth it. The museum is small and very focused. We did not even know there was a battle of Stonington during the War of 1812 and the settlers beat back the British. We found the children's exhibit wonderful, as were the flags. One had stars that looked like star fish. After the museum, you get to go up the winding stone steps to a ships ladder to the top of the light. The view is worth the price of admission. After going here, go to the Palmer House. The admission covers both.

The location was right at the point you could see for miles. The sunset was beautiful, the only place to take a good picture from all points. The town was so pleasant, old fashion.
