I was lucky enough to be part of a crew filming a short film in the Palmer house and I have to say it was an amazing experience. Perfectly preserved as a late nineteenth century residence, the house serves not only as a testament to the man who discovered Antarctica, but also as a great design time capsule of what residential life was like in a New England fishing village a hundred years ago. The wallpaper is spectacular, especially in the main room and the bathroom on the ground floor is worth the trip alone (all four walls are hung with dark green cloth, very moody). And the site managers are both wonderfully helpful. Great location, definitely worth visiting.

If you're visiting the Mystic Seaport and are staying in the area this is a perfect pairing! We got our bearings on the big picture and then visited the Palmer House to hear the personal story of one young sea captain's amazing discovery. A fascinating tour is included in the admission which also gets you into the Lighthouse Museum, well worth a visit and also in Stonington. We were amazed that although this house is listed as a National Historic Landmark it receives no funding, hence the admission, so you're supporting two historic buildings!I don't want to say too much as it might spoil your surprise but the story we heard of this family really gives you some insight into the past. Stonington Borough is a beautiful little village full of architectural and dining delights! The last Connecticut fishing fleet resides here and Stonington scallops are definitely not to be missed either! We're temporary visitors here, love it and don't mind sharing!Enjoy!

Im Oktober 2014 führte uns der Zufall zu diesem kleinen Juwel. Da wir in der Nebensaison dort waren, konnten wir eine private Führung genießen. Die liebenswerte Dame nahm sich fast eine Stunde Zeit für uns und erklärte uns die zum Teil tragische Geschichte der Familie Palmer und wie es dazu kam, dass ihr ehemaliges Anwesen, nun ein Museum ist. Das Museum ist noch relativ "neu", bietet aber dennoch eine große Vielzahl an Exponaten und dazugehörigen Geschichten. Der Eintritt beinhaltet ebenso den Leuchtturm in Stonington, welcher zwar klein, aber auch mit viel Liebe hergerichtet wurde.
