At least 3 huge hangar- rooms full of airplanes and an activity room with various planned events, from Lego building contests to model airplane building ( check the website for what's going on that day.) kept us all ( 2 adults, and 9 and 11 year old boys) interested. None of us are particularly " airplane crazy" people but we all enjoyed it. Some of the planes are open cockpit- meaning you can climb in- but only at certain times, so plan ahead if you want to climb in. Strike up a conversation with one of the many docents and you might find yourself on a private tour of a "roped off" plane, as Carl did for my family with the Superfortress bomber. He even taught my 9 year old how the gun sights worked and let him try it. Another docent told us about working on one of the planes, when he strapped in one of the Apollo 13 astronauts in his pilot days. These folks are a tremendous source of info, and super friendly. There are a few tables and vending machines in a snack area, a decent gift shop with everything from key chains to books to airplane art, and plenty of parking. Several restaurants nearby if you want a meal. We visited during Feb. school vacation week and it wasn't crowded. We are planning another trip.
