You can visit the nature center building and gift shop and look outside, you can visit the owls in their cages, or you can walk the extensive well-groomed wide (keeps the ticks away) of the woods and meadows and waterways of this compact, but varied nature center. Boardwalks take you over the wet spots and much of the area we explored is possible for wheelchairs. You do need to be aware of tree roots, however, and also some steep grades. So ask first, but this is a place for enjoying birds and small animals up close no matter what your physical abilities are.

Many attractions can be overwhelming especially to the younger children. We took our two grandchildren to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center this past month. The children are 18 months and 4-1/2 years. We spent a great deal of time watching the turtle and frog exhibits. Nothing fancy, just a close up look with little competition from other children. Outside you can see owls, falcons and yes, even an eagle up close and personal. Their favorite was the "Night Sounds" room where upon entering, you push the start button, the lights go off and you hear the sounds of the night. Soft lighting helps the little ones focus on the displays of the night sky and the different bugs and animals that come out at night. My grandchildren are asking to go back. The best part, it is reasonably priced so everyone can afford a simple, nice adventure. There are trails and picnic tables so plan to explore the woods and bring a picnic lunch if its a nice day!

The Museum, the Village, walka round the forest, the videos, all is a great oportunity to learn real history.

We went in early September. really not much to see. A very good walk, but a little on the longer side. Maybe in spring this would be a better place to go.

We had a great nature walk, very beautiful, live display of Owls, very children friendly. There is pond we saw turtles, there is a show describing all the animals and birds inside the park. Admission $ 8 which goes towards the conservation

I have to admit we didn't get out of the car, as it was a really cold, blustery day in late winter. But, we drove through it to visit for the afternoon with friends who live on the edge of it; and via asking them about it, we would recommend it! Maybe we'll go back one day!

I found the hiking trails to be extensive, well labelled and very nice. One easy trail went around a pond and we saw countless bullfrogs and interesting butterflies/dragonflies. Other trails are connected by a series of wooden boardwalks. On the grounds there are a few pens where you can see injured owls/birds of prey that aren't able to be returned to the wild. They were really cool. But I think the exhibits inside the visitor center needed updating and the items in the gift shop were expensive too. I would lower the admission rate by a few dollars to make it worth it because not everyone wants to walk the trails either (especially if its hot), and there were lots of mosquitoes. There was also no wheelchair access and half of the exhibits are down a flight of stairs so my grandma had a hard time seeing everything.

Nice and quiet , we went during mild heat and after rain so many mosquitoes . We made the most of it and had fun . Next time we''ll plan our hike in cooler weather . Pack a lunch and eat at the table by the parking area after you hike .

I often take my granddaughter to see the turtules , frogs, snakes and owls in natural habitat. They have a nice simulation of nightime where you can hear all the sound of animals and insects while sitting peacefully in the dark yourself. We like to count turtles sunning themselves as we walk around the pond. Last time we saw a Canadian Goose on her travels. Don't miss the spooky Halloween walk in the woods with crafting and face painting.

It's a quaint little nature center, but it's seen better days. There were cobwebs on the exhibits, and overall could use a little more maintenance. The trails in back were nice, but not worth the cost of admission.

Very informative displays and the people are willing to explain more if needed. Worth going on a summer day with children.

Blue bird meadow and preserve near Mystic Seaport and easy to visit. Sunday green market is a destination.

One of my favorite spots. A great place to take your family. Young children to teens can find enjoyment with many activities here. The upcoming nighttime Halloween walk is fabulous and a must for families with children 8-12 and older children can enjoy it in groups. Remember to bring your own flashlight!

The hold several special events through out the year. If you like hiking and learning, it is fun, but other places are nearby with out fees

We were hoping for a much more elaborate nature center since we were visiting Mystic, CT. This place was very underwhelming. Even though it was only $8/adult, it was expensive since we did not see much of anything. We merely looked at some stuffed animals and watched a 5 minute film about a meadow. We walked some trails, including the meadow trail where we spotted lots of butterflies, but besides that, it is definitely not worth the price. Afterwards, we realized we could have just walked the trails without paying.
